He deserves this man. After the shitshow in 2023 I'm glad he's getting his money worth
Congo1 [#9]whats their chances like?
there’s lots of strong contenders from japan, korea and thailand
but they have high firepower so there’s a chance
danii1 [#13]Why not
Well I'm not fully aware of how DSG works, it might have changed, but at least last time I checked it was all money coming from Toast right? What about their sponsors and stuff? Doesn't sound like financially stable org at all, and they do not really compete in anything else either.
Riot has already turned down the guard last year, I'm just wondering where their bar is. At least it's a popular org which I'm sure helps

to correct you "riot" did not turn down "the guard", it was the org itself that backed out and there was no communication from them to riot

Really? That's not what was originally reported was it? You might be right tho. In any case, Riot could very well turn an org down if they thought appropriate, specially now that there is precedent
I would think the fact that it is only 1 year now lowers the expectation tho
d4cyies [#2]ive been watching him for so long, he really deserves this after all the stress he's gone through!
yay was the fucking problem

They do have a pretty decent NACL roster as well, and they actually won NACL last year. They alse had a GC team, but after being eliminated from a tourney by a team that turned out to have been cheating (or rather, one cheater) they disbanded. Also sponsored a bunch of TFT streamers to an event, with some still maintaining their DSG branding. So I'd say their relation with Riot is probably sound enough.
DSG also has an Apex NA team, which has qualified to the "champions" event for Apex later this year, and they have 'recently' picked up PhiDX in tekken 8.
Only issue that might arise is their affiliation with BLEED, but I assume that would just get dissolved in order for DSG to promote, if they win that is.

Alright so they're bigger than I thought. My initial concern still remains tho, I suppose all the money doesn't still just come from Toast right?
LeCat [#18]Man juicy deserved T1. I don't get why Riot didn't let him compete when in tier 1 when he is competing in tier 2 anw.
The original Bleed roster could have had a DRG like year where they are a mid tier team that fluked to a tournament. which is still really good
it's sad 2005 players have played since forever but not for 2006

I never seen anyone report riot turned them down lol
tought it was pretty genereal knowledge it was the guard who refused to sign the contract cause they were leaving esports anyways
you high mortadelo?

He is right. Guard didnt want to sign the TPA. At least not under the conditions that were presented since they werent gonna put a cent more into the team
Mortadelo [#20]Alright so they're bigger than I thought. My initial concern still remains tho, I suppose all the money doesn't still just come from Toast right?
Yes

Well all of you seem to agree so I thought I might remember wrong and had to check again.
The news comes after The Guard and their former lineup were controversially denied a spot in VCT Americas due to The Guard organization not meeting Riot's Team Participation Guidelines.

I might still be as you guys say, but I knew my memory wasn't just making shit up

Because juicy is underage and need to serve NS when he turns 18. Recently, he revealed that he is PES F. so he can play tier 1 when he turns 18
Congo1 [#27]Yes
If that is the case I'm not sure Riot will be cool with it, but I imagine it can be changed
laeDLaer [#24]juicy is the guy that got dropped from bleed? y0y
juicy is underage last year and need to serve national service when he turns 18. Recently, he revealed that he is PES F (he doesnt need to serve national service) so he can play tier 1 when he turns 18

I believe Juicy was going to do military service or something and then didn't
Mortadelo [#30]If that is the case I'm not sure Riot will be cool with it, but I imagine it can be changed
i get the worry but worst case i imagine he could ask around and get other people involved if more funding was required, i doubt riot cares where the money is coming from as long as they think DSG has enough money to put into the scene i think they should be fine with it.
Mortadelo [#30]If that is the case I'm not sure Riot will be cool with it, but I imagine it can be changed
No not for valorant team since bleed's partnership with DSG
R0ver11 [#35]No not for valorant team since bleed's partnership with DSG
That makes sense but if they ascend that partnership would break so doesn't really help

Yeah I imagine he has thought about it already
Harapan845 [#33]Aren't they bleeds affiliate? How would that work
bleed drops down next year anyway i think
Harapan845 [#33]Aren't they bleeds affiliate? How would that work
I imagine the deal just breaks if the team ascends
Mortadelo [#41]I imagine the deal just breaks if the team ascends
dont they get money from bleed tho
Harapan845 [#42]dont they get money from bleed tho
Yeah but the amount depends on what they agreed to. The standard is the salary of 1 or 2 players or something like that since they have the right to use them, but you never know with Bleed ig
Al-Mawsil [#43]they are guaranteed for 2 years
oh wait im stupid the changes for ascension arent a thing until 2025 ascension
R0ver11 [#35]No not for valorant team since bleed's partnership with DSG
From what I understand the partnership between BLEED and DSG is not financial, i.e. Bleed doesn't support DSG financially in any way (other than the bootcamp that Bleed used when they were in ascensions, and gave to toast for DSG) so everything is from Toast's pockets and sponsors if they have any. This partnership is what riot calls an "Affiliate Partnership" and its similar to what academy teams are. What this means for DSG is that, in case of emergency situations with the players and the org not being able to find a possible substitute, the partner (who may have initially designated a player as a sub? I'm not sure) can lend the other org that player. Riot also mentioned that the partners can also work closer in content, but i don't think DSG is doing that.

they are in apex partnership system according to liquipedia, but so is moist so idk

bro it literally says Riot didn't let the Guard ascend because they refused to meet their guidelines because they were backing out. So the guard refused to pay for any needed upgrades to facilities or whatever it is and backed out.

Not exactly, players from an affiliate team can move between both teams almost freely, kind of like an NBA 2way contract if you know. Famsii this year has been the only example I believe, he played with both UCAM and GX at the same time. Money tho that does depend so it could be very little to none or quite a lot

They didn't wanna add money so Riot didn't let them in. If Riot allowed them to maintain everything as it currently was they would have probably accepted. Guess you can see it both ways, either way, there is a financial stability test that's needed and Riot can totally reject a team if they see it fit

People above said the Guard was leaving Esports? do they even have a team for any game left right now? what makes you think they'd want to accept it, it would just cost them alot of money and i assume even if they didnt have to pay riot anything the salaries for their players would go up too

fielding a roster with minimum salaries it's net positive because of the money riot gives teams
