In terms of competitiveness, I would say no. But Rito needs those passionate Japanese fans and that money from them, so they have no choice but to keep those 2 teams in franchising.
cyk [#5]who cares competitiveness, its all about fanbase and brand
Esports is just business( marketing) at the end of the day
ShuGo [#6]They legit do not deserve 2 spots
They only have them cause of their viewership, however.
No shit, 30k viewers even when zeta is at its lowest point. Even without zeta they would at least be around 10-12k , and the same goes for tier 2
( im only talking about youtube). As riot you wouldn't want to lose that kind of fanbase
sleeek [#9]i think indo deserve 2 tbh imo ngl xoxo
nvm, BOOM will win Ascension and buy out Kush, so we'll have a stacked Indonesian roster and smash RRQ. If we don't win Ascension, our players will separate again into other APAC teams.

Damn, I imagined Japanese viewership to be higher, even individual Finnish players get 10k viewers on their pro teams games

tbf it was higher before franchising, VCT JP had one of the highest averages from all VCTs, alongside with VCT Turkey, Brazil and NA.

The numbers can fluctuate. Teams like fennel will get you around 20k . Murash at 40-60k and riddle at around 40k ( cmiiw). Regardless, if we count apac as a whole jp has a huge proportion.
Now I have a hard time counting on my head because I always missed twitch or youtube side of things ๐
Mb don't trust my numbers , but I can guarantee you it's huge. The point is some team has clout while others don't ๐
KOMPOSTO [#21]Does China deserve 10 spots in franchising

NA has like 5, SA has like 5, Turkey has 2, Korea has 2 etc etc

China has a massive population and insane viewership. In terms of population, that ratio to those other countries seems about right for a country of well over a billion people with a large esports scene (India has a similarly big population but lower viewership/revenue).
According to this article from 2022, China's total esports revenue is greater than the rest of Asia combined; from that perspective, China having its own league makes perfect sense; there's enough of a market to support it, and it worked for League with the LPL.
Also, Korea has 3 teams (DRX, GENG, T1).
