Curious on what you believe the best city in your respective country is and why. Thinking about taking a gap year and travelling.
bonkashi [#6]i haven't visited many cities really but Edinburgh is up there
What're your thoughts on a potential tourist coming there? I've heard cool things about Edinburgh Castle and the architecture.
Mjtchell [#8]Los Angeles is super spread out and represents the fake glam that America has
New York shows how corrupt the companies are in America
Chicago to me is the best representation of what all of America is
As a based American I completely agree with this take. I would add that any west coast city does not fully represent the U.S.

No they're all inflated by the tech companies of the west coast

NYC has corporate corruption yes, but also some of the most tight knit communities in the entire US. It's a place built on immigrants, and is definitely more than the corporate entities it houses. Also tbf, it doesn't have more corporate holdings than most other US cities, it just has the financial buildings.

Thats because all of the factories for these big companies are in new jersey for lower tax rates which to me just exemplifies the corruption that goes on

Actually they're usually in places like Florida/Texas for the same reason, but yeah I agree. NYC is still way more than corporate playhouses though, and a really incredible and unique place on earth.
yaiima0 [#19]Miami is hella fun, party city for sure
I've personally never been to Miami. I know their Latin American influence is strong though and that their food and nightlife is magnificent.
WinterZ [#12]idk probably Cluj-Napoca in terms of quality of life. Its quite expensive compared to other cities in Romania tho. Overall I'd have to go with Bucharest tho because its close to a lot of tourist attractions and you have pretty much everything you need over there.
think of Cluj-Napoca as the L.A. of Romania
Kiseki [#3]Tokyo no?
calling Tokyo as a city is definition of gaijins view
Tokyo for us is area that works as our capital and contains many popular wards
anyways you never go to Shinjuku unless you have certain shops really want to go in shinjuku
walking around Shinjuku station is SO annoying there are so many JP memes about stupid Shinjuku station
Just go to Shibuya or Ikebukuro (you have weeb name so I suggest Akihabara too)
WinterZ [#27]think of Cluj-Napoca as the L.A. of Romania
Interesting to think about. I had a friend attend the CS major in Cluj-Napoca in 2015 and said he liked staying over there and enjoyed the nightlife. I appreciate your truthful insight.
Tuim [#32]Rio de Janeiro - Salvador = culture
Bonito - Jericoacoara = nature
I have a lot of preconceived notions about Rio de Janeiro as a city based on CS // hltv beliefs but you're not the first person to say that Rio is your best city. How and where could I experience your culture based in Rio may I ask?
Mjtchell [#8]Los Angeles is super spread out and represents the fake glam that America has

holy based, Chicago is a great city, people just cant get past the media reputation sadly
shoutout to Boston tho also a cool city
Tuim [#32]Rio de Janeiro - Salvador = culture
Bonito - Jericoacoara = nature
I kinda agree with you, but I would add Gramado in architecture + nature and São Paulo if you like multicultural city.
Gramado (and Canela) is an amazing place to visit with your girl. Kinda romantic
LMM4 [#10]What're your thoughts on a potential tourist coming there? I've heard cool things about Edinburgh Castle and the architecture.
Architecturally Edinburgh is beautiful, loads of gothic style buildings. I was there as a tourist too so i can't give too much insight, but the people are lovely, museums were great and the castle was great, really good views from the top.

That is awesome to hear! Thank you so much for your insight :D

Nyc does have a lot of corrupt companies floating about, but doesn’t mean it’s bad, a lot of genuine people here that make the community more comfortable.
Reimsy [#40]holy based, Chicago is a great city, people just cant get past the media reputation sadly

I absolutely love Boston! It is definitely a unique part of the U.S that you will not get anywhere else. The people there truly make the experience as well.

I lived in Rio for 15 years, I can tell you that many things they say are real but the city is very big and if you know where to go you will have no problems
I would recommend the neighborhoods of Lapa, Barra da Tijuca and Leblon, if you like historic buildings, check out Avenida Rio Branco and Avenida Presidente Vargas

Thank you so much for your input! I figured that with every city they have good areas and bad areas and I assumed the same with Rio.

NYC has a diversity of cultures and communities that is truly amazing. You can experience the food and culture of so many different places from around the world + it's very walkable and the public transport is accessible and far-reaching.
Lmao brazilians saying rio de janeiro when its literally one of the worst cities in the country. at the 2016 olympics, several foreigners complained about the pollution and poverty prevailing in that city
The best cities in brazil are:

That's what I've read up as well about Rio de Janeiro; I feel that one would have to be very meticulous as to where to stay and visit when you are there.
With that being said, can I ask how you formulated your list? Pure curiosity :)

Florianopolis is one of least unequal cities in the country with high living standards high education index
Also very beautiful city with the most beautiful beaches in south brazil and a beautiful history this city was founded by immigrants from the azores
redlight [#76]I'd say Toronto but Quebec City and Vancouver are also really nice cities.
Montreal is nice too but Quebec City is more tourist-friendly than Montreal imo, there's a lot more things to do in QC.
I was hoping someone from Canada would offer their insight. Thank you so much.
May I ask what kind of things you are able to do in Quebec City? I have family in Winnipeg and might be able to make it a 2-in-1 deal.
Mjtchell [#8]Los Angeles is super spread out and represents the fake glam that America has

Pretty much every large major city is a shithole in one way or another.
All still have good spots but the largest of cities LA, NYC, Miami, Chicago, all are pretty bad.
loseralex [#96]detroit
as a member of the can't have shit club.
Yes, best city in America to travel to hands down.
It depends. I already travelled to all around Brazil and I can tell that:
The best place for work is São Paulo.
In paradise terms, Maceió.
If u'are looking for beautill woman, Santa Catarina or Paraná (State).
If you are looking for peace = Araçatuba (the dream).
Conclusion: Rio de Janeiro = Only Hype. Poor place, disgusting people and everything bad from brazil come from there. There is no wordefull city as people say. Northeast of Brazil is the best plac for that.
redlight [#76]I'd say Toronto but Quebec City and Vancouver are also really nice cities.

Dude canada isnt small lmfao, if you think you can do a 2-in-1 with Quebec city and winnipeg your vacation might be 2 month long then. Just watch a map bro… but tbf you can visite the old side of quebec with a private guide (btw don’t forget to take an English visite or you wont understand a think) other than that idk

West coast best coast. Fuck LA tho
TheHardStuckImmortal [#115]bengaluru is the best city no cap. Most progressive aswell.
Yeah 12 hrs traffic jams,Most progressive.😂
Adruvi17 [#45]Sevilla (but too hot)
Barcelona owns them in football and beaches, but Sevilha is really beautiful and have a great culinary too

I understand that Quebec City and Winnipeg is not just a small roadtrip away. I should have clarified that time is not necessarily a factor when factoring in these trips.
With that being said I appreciate the advice regarding the private guide, that will be something I will have to look into :).
LMM4 [#10]What're your thoughts on a potential tourist coming there? I've heard cool things about Edinburgh Castle and the architecture.
went to Edinburgh recently and it was amazing, I would definitely recommend it.

Fuck Miami specifically
kyrielight [#78]what do you think about hokkaido
tbh I never been to Hokkaido in my life so this information has so many guesses.
Hokkaido is great place for Japanese tourists and not good place for foreign tourists.
Hokkaido has have best food and beautiful nature but you need to rent a car or get on bus/train for hours to enjoy places.Hokkaido except Sapporo city is countryside in Japan it takes so long to move around. I dont know tourists can rent a car with foreign license and taxi in Japan is mega expensive.
Only walkable area on Hokkaido is some part of Sapporo city but Sapporo city is actually one of the biggest cities in Japan. Also its coldest area in Japan so it starts snowing soon.
If you dont understand Japanese or dont have a Japanese friend to help your travel, I just suggest Tokyo area or Osaka/Kyoto area instead of Hokkaido. Tokyo and Osaka are basically walkable (except stupid Shinjuku/Umeda station). Then You choose your favorite places to visit for tourism or shopping. This is such a boring suggest but works well.
For me personally? either bandung or solo.
For foreigner? definitely bali/yogyakarta, OR gili island part of lombok if you "wild" enough :)
and sukabumi for hidden nature gem but sadly isnt friendly for foreigner tourist unless you are willing to spend dimes for personal tourist guide.
lastly jakarta might be suck rn but i love the gov long-term focus on public transportation.
burritx [#16]Rio de Janeiro

ive learnt about rio de janeiro in geography lessons and it has a really nice vibe to it. however i might hold off from visiting until they clean the sea...
