a lot of people chalk up g2's international dropoffs to individuals like leaf or jonahp choking which was only really true in bangkok finals, but there's a different element to their international performances that people don't talk enough about which is their awful prep. Think about how they started permabanning fracture halfway through bangkok because they were way worse at it than they thought, or how they completely failed to adapt to tejo nerfs in toronto despite having way more time than the teams who had to play through swiss stage, or how they deluded themselves into believing they had a 7 map pool in champs despite having a terrible bind.

Honestly I think they as a team struggle heavily to find themselves in new metas and the only reason they made it as far as they did in bangkok was that the tejo meta both suited them and was extremely simple: you played tejo/yoru/breach/omen or astra on every map, filled the 5th slot with whatever sentinel suits the map and you played postplants with broken tejo missiles. Even in peak tejo meta though they didn't play him on pearl, which is probably his best map, despite being the best tejo team except for maybe drx. They play weird comps like tejo on corrode and breach solo waylay on split, they never come into an event with good ideas that can carry you like a drx and they never steal the proven easy shit like double duelist despite leaf being able to flex to duelist just fine.

You can say it's for comfort but they literally have babybay on viper on split while leaf plays breach instead of leaf on viper and babybay on basically anything other than a breach. Put him on chamber, put him on raze and have jawg play yoru, just be normal. Having to play from behind macro/compwise in every event is why their ceiling feels low, they're playing catchup during tournaments and losing to teams they should beat because they are overconfident in their subpar ideas.
