GoNext have gotten thriftied the last 5 times after winning a pistol
Idek how they do it

posted 4 months ago

nah this rulebook is the updated one (Tomek is the one responsible for it and only published it today)
but theres multiple ways to apply these rules which would lead to different results so im not 100% sure how it'd work

theres a very good chance they have wrong info though, ik one of the coaches from a team in ascension atm who wasnt aware of the exact rules
most people were just using the main vct rulebook but thats different to this one

posted 4 months ago

The rulebook from ascension got uploaded publicly today and Im struggling to properly create the scenarios for how every team makes it (mainly cause im not 100% sure how the rules will be applied?).
First off there are no extra rules for 3 way ties. Theyll be using the exact same rules as 2 way ties:

(1) Head-to-head Match score.
(2) Head-to-head map differential.
(3) Head-to-head round differential.
(4) Event map differential.
(5) Event round differential.

If someone more experienced with tiebreakers wants to create the scenarios for us and give us a quick rundown that'd be much appreciated^^

roster looks pretty good

personally I prefer Leosen over click if youre going to t1 (just because while click is gonna be the german goat, I feel like hes going to need a lot of focus from the coaching staff to properly develop him and idk if the first german team in 2 years could afford that)

For t2 I dont really have any complaints. Take Azury for sure then cause bro is growing SO fast.

Also every "leak" we get we find out someone from t1 was interested in another member from SK, its actually crazy how they might be the most sought after roster in dach despite not preforming as well as the others.

dont think the tiebreaker is gonna eliminate teams if it cant find a single winner in a clause so itll be down to maps between all 3 of them always

but ye regardless of what happens they just need Mouz to win with a round diff between +0 and +22

posted 4 months ago

alright mouz, yall aint gonna make it with that round diff, but at least get TU into playoffs for us, will ya?

posted 4 months ago

they lost vs dsy for the 3 way tie though
and dsy lost vs apk

(or they lost vs cgn who lost vs apk)

posted 4 months ago

oh ye if a team beat the other 2 theyd win the tiebreaker
but for any of the 3 way ties to occur thered be a circle of teams beating each other

posted 4 months ago

for 3 way tie its
h2h -> map diff -> round dif -> bo1

based off the screenshot from the rulebook
https://x.com/ChainsSoul/status/1830709538116251873/

posted 4 months ago

theres no h2h in any of the 3 way ties
cgn beat gn beat apk beat cgn

and the other one is
gn beat apk beat dys beat gn

posted 4 months ago

apeks win -> GN always out (best case is a 3 way tie with cgn, but they have the worst rounds at 6/4 max)
apeks lose -> GN win -> GN qual
apeks lose -> GN lose -> Dsy win -> GN out (lose on maps vs Apeks always)

Dsy making it out of the 3 teams by beating GN 2-0 convincingly and Barca crushing Apeks would be the funniest outcome possible

posted 4 months ago

we could reasonably have both groups get decided by a 3 way tie
actually insanely close

posted 4 months ago

yup best goNext can get is 6/4 in maps so cgn beat them even in a 3 way tie

posted 4 months ago

You know how normal games can have close scorelines despite 1 team being pretty dominant due to pistols?
Yea CGN and GoNext agreed they werent gonna do that. No bs we win a pistol -> snowball ults shit here, just 10 players brawling it out fair and square.

Problem is that it wasnt fair and square. Zescht knew they were gonna need the advantage today and snuck some sleeping medicine into CGN's breakfast.
What followed was a slaughter. No one knew CGN were able to hold angles, but oh boy hold angles they did. With the strat diff out of the way CGN just had an easy time aim diffing the crap out of GoNext and the rest is history

yesnt
no definitely not, programming is hard at the start, then is easy for a while and then gets hard when you try to actually become good (aka when you get your first job and notice that you dont know shit yet)
but since I started programming with a clear goal in mind (making minecraft plugins back in 2012 xD) the learning process was rather enjoyable

I actually feel bad, wtf was this entire tourney

bit dead but also a couple fun ones coming up

dsyre just playing with barcas feelings, tf was that

posted 4 months ago

Thought he was going to be on the cutting block last year too ngl.
However I really ended up liking the IGLing core shadow and starxo made and thought it was the main reason for KOIs strong stage 2, so its sorta bittersweet to see him go.

Id like to see him play in t2 for a year and fully focus on becoming an igl. The t1 experience is there and he seems capable when it comes to calling. A bit more time and development and I wouldnt mind seeing him return.

GL to him wherever he ends up going though

posted 4 months ago

T2 is a place for development. So letting young players play in there so theyre ready for when theyre 18 is hopefully understandable

The thing about ascension is that its the org that ascends not the players.
Think of g2 or bleed only keeping part of their roster. From how I see it this is fully intended by the system (and with the duration change even encouraged). Personally hate it since I wanna see more t2 players in t1 but its in line with the goals of franchising (and even the tier 2 leagues).

So riot is perfectly fine with an org winning that would be able to keep 0 players due to the age rule. For them it only matters that an org from t2 gets rewarded and the other orgs take the bait and stay in the system, providing t1 with a steady supply of new players.

posted 4 months ago

Did a short writeup from memory (cba to try and read labor laws, those things suck ass) about why the age restriction exists a while back
https://www.vlr.gg/post/3869658/valorant-ascension-question

Didnt explain the "Limit on work times" point that well but think its fine to give people a base idea on why riot dont allow minors in vct.

posted 4 months ago

yup gotta agree
there are good partners ready in t2 tbf, but fixing relations/expediencies with existing partners is so much easier

posted 4 months ago

Yea just to be very clear theres a LOT of teams expected to be in these talks with riot
We have no idea if Riot even plans to kick a team so Id treat these talks more as warnings for teams riot deems as under preforming.

Personally I dont think anyone's getting removed, since riot have waited for the roster shuffles to start before holding these talks without warning any team directly that they might be losing their spot.
Lots of pros already in advanced talks with various orgs, and the public backlash for screwing over the players would be unnecessary for riot

2021 > 2023 > 2024 > 2022
2021: Both the most boring year but also by far the most hype. Game was fresh, bonkar was farming NiP, the world was good.
2023: Main thing putting this year over 2024 is rostermania + lockin being hype af. Otherwise theyre pretty similar. Also people seem to forget just how good the EG run was; in terms of a single storyline this is the best we've had.
2024: On paper should be the best year. 2 new regions getting their first international. But it just felt off. The venues being meh and underused, t2 troubles reaching a boiling point (at least for emea theyre trying some fixes next year) and vlr being an absolute shitshow (2023 was too tbf... guess I just wasnt quite as tired of all the nonstop region wars yet). All in all Id put chalk it up more to my own vct fatigue.
2022: Didnt have the same hype as 2021. The the fight for top 3 between fpx, loud and optic was fun, but the war screwing everything up in emea did just ruin the year for me.

saw the same post xD ye sounds like theyre out

posted 4 months ago

idk its LRojo so theres also a very good chance hes just trolling
but ye liquipedia folks usually actually read the tiebreakers so probs correct?

edit: oh ye this is too heartfelt for a troll post https://x.com/MartinJToribio/status/1830700815952032199

biased casts are just the best thing to come out of this ascension for sure
french cast was also top tier during the play-ins (havent looked at it during playoffs)

Next year t2 with more of this is gonna be amazing

posted 4 months ago

Its not that they had an insane improvement, more that the first game was a huge underperformance
While no one was rating them super highly the pro player "based on scrims" tierlists I saw going into ascension all had them in the middle of the pack

Fighter has pleasantly surprised though for sure, was worried the transition time would be too slow for this tourney, but he fragged super well today

posted 4 months ago

nah nah def want cgn over another spanish, french or turkish org

but cant support em too much as someone who spent a year in Düsseldorf ya know?

posted 4 months ago

Barca going for a 3 way tie now
good map and round differential so just gotta beat apeks (and dysire but thats a given for anyone trying to make it out of the group) and pray gonext beats cgn

posted 4 months ago

ye hes a known talent to t1 coaches, so thats a good at least
idk if he ever got trials (probably did) but he gotta get some serious consideration this year

posted 4 months ago

We dont know
Theres a roster lock a while ago (before play-ins started) so theyre most likely using one of the emergency clauses

we dont know which one or why. No "proper" public info past the internal issue tweet from kpzet was ever given to us so theres rumors galore
but ye Riot allowed it so cant fault barca for it

posted 4 months ago

ey no friendly fire yet, youre their one supporter on vlr :(

posted 4 months ago

well ya observe for riot not for mist games

saw you were on the observer list but didnt put 1 and 1 together which lead to this 10/10 misinformation spreading
(and the "on a roll" part is because its the second time for this event that I wasnt paying enough attention and said stupid stuff as a result)

dont have a clip but round 19 of icebox

Liquid drooling watching this series
profek and Jesse gotta be in t1 next year.

Jesus christ, aNguiSt potentially sending apeks home after not getting picked up Apeks (idk how far trials were tbf) is peak script writing

CGN > Mouz in terms of how vocal their fans are (though both are fun af)

https://www.youtube.com/live/x8iZEzyqe_Y?si=E-Eokve2bUo2_d6j&t=34666
Just imagine actually getting either of these fanbases to attend during the regular season (mouz fans shouting 0 rounds (score is 0-8 atm) and cgn fans shouting 0 titles (mouz had yet to win dach at the time))

posted 4 months ago

we gotta get our wins in somewhere smh

posted 4 months ago

Xuss and Alive have been this good for years at this point though
Idk what it is (realistically its gotta be buyouts, cant explain it otherwise) but they just never make it

posted 4 months ago

Nah that'd be a bad idea (except for Spain since they are 3 regions in 1 now)

  • Talent pool is already really diluted between teams
  • We quite simply dont have 128 proper orgs (and the end goal for all t2 regions should be to have 100% of their slots occupied by vetted orgs. Having to loosen this vetting process is only going to hurt the players in the region)
  • EMEA has t3 in quite a few regions. You dont need such a huge t2 scene if you already have the support structure to develop more talent for t2.
  • Viewer numbers are already a problem. Adding so many stomps/boring games just isnt going to help this. (In t2 the large orgs bring a significant portion of the viewers)

Also regarding your polaris discussion:
While creating a more diverse pool of players (it was very GB focused in the recent years) is definitely a goal, splitting the region further would be catastrophic. That just creates more production overhead, less average viewers (the fans of one team wouldnt have any reason to watch people from the other group) and reduces the competition (which polaris already lacks atm with the majority of notable players of past years being exported to other regions/retiring)

posted 4 months ago

ye should have been more specific with what I meant with match
meant the whole series (which is 3 hours on that one tbf so a very good example regardless)
this one crushes it though with almost 4 hours

like thats gonna be hard to beat

posted 4 months ago

Ok im interested what the longest game (without tech delays) is in valo, cause this gotta be up there
edit: match as in series
so this one being just under 4 hours

posted 4 months ago

The team notorious for always choking and never winning their own league?
nah theyre great with nerves

posted 4 months ago

kaajak actually saw the vlr threads saying he couldnt 1v5 and took that as a challenge

posted 4 months ago

jesus im on a roll atm
gotta start reading some liquipedia between these stages cause im making wrong assumptions based on staff left and right xD mb mb

should have gotten the hint when I saw xilv was observing

posted 4 months ago

its the b stream, main one is fine
but ye sucks that its fucked up like that rn

shame, Mist have done so well (except the GB wifi failing them) up until now
welp actual riot production masterclass

posted 4 months ago

apeks got picked apart though so its hard to tell (Itopata did end up getting 3rd at champs if thats worth anything)

we knew m8 was going to struggle going in (just based on some very extreme rumors regarding their scrims during the offseason)

In general any team that ascends is going to struggle in emea a bit since we have the arbitrary region locks. But Im pretty confident that if one of the teams that play "normal" valorant (e.g. apeks, gonext, JL) ascends, they can end up in the middle of the table next year
Making it to international is going to be borderline impossible. Though tbf that realistically is the case for m80 too with how they played this year but I aint talking shit after g2.

posted 4 months ago

yup as Mortadelo said above
I followed bonkar to val (with the original nip roster from paladins) and am gonna be using his flair while hes in the scene

posted 4 months ago

Its generally rare anyways for head coaches to get picked up straight from t2 so I think it should be fine (assistant coach slots can be filled during trials)
Orgs do also talk with the coaches/players while ascension is still ongoing so theyre not completely screwed there either
