Riot has revealed new details about Masters Reykjavik, which will feature a radical change from last year's format.

Unlike the 2021 Masters Reykjavik, this year's edition will include a group stage and a playoffs stage to crown its champion.

The group stage will place eight of the 12 participating teams in two four-team GSL groups. The remaining four teams will be automatically placed in the playoffs, as previously announced.

The two top teams of each group will advance to the playoffs. In the playoffs, a group stage team will be pitted against one of the four seeded teams. Teams from the same group being placed on opposite sides of the bracket to avoid early rematches.

Every match played in Iceland will be a best-of-three, with the exception of the playoffs' lower bracket final and the grand final, which will be best-of-five matches.

Masters Reykjavik runs from April 10 to 24. The first eight days of the tournament, until April 18, will host the entire group stage as well as the early rounds of bracket play, while the final rounds of the playoffs will run from April 22 to 24.
