Officially has surpassed one piece completely with yesterday episode in popularity and hype. Also the highest rated anime episode of all time only behind Vinland saga last ep in imdb. Only in one year it has already reached Dragon ball level popularity. Also I don't understand why one piece fans are so insecure. They can't stand a 1 year anime becoming more popular than their 20 year old show in one year lol. Also most liked episode as well as highest rated anime in Crunchyroll as well.

With season 3 it might actually become 2nd most popular anime franchise oat. Can't surpass pokemon tbh. Pokemon is too popular as a game.

You don't know the rest of the story. With s3 it will most likely surpass Goku or Dragon ball in popularity. Yesterday episode literally crashed a few anime sites like hianime and also caused Crunchyroll servers to shut down completely.
Bruh it takes so long to reply. I need to reach 4 star asap.

Lol Crunchyroll didn't crash at all. A couple of pirated anime sites did crash for a couple of minutes but Crunchyroll ran smoothly for majority.
Also do you even know how big Dragon ball is worldwide? And demon slayer, jjk, one piece, aot all have done similar things. SL is fun but damm the fans are so annoying.

It had 350k likes in less than 1 day of dropping. Thats insane, considering not many people even use the like feature on Crunchyroll. These are also paid subscribers, I would not be surprised if it streamed more than 10mil in the first 12 hours

It makes sense tho as it's Crunchyroll exclusive anime and only available in Netflix in 6-7 countries. Most SL fans who watch anime legally watch it in Crunchyroll. Also sl fans somehow think Crunchyroll ratings and likes are very relevant like fmab fans thought of Mal rating lol. So they all try to increase the ratings and likes as much as they can.

It hasn't even surpassed demon slayer or jjk peak popularity lol. Do you even know how big one piece and dragon ball are? I have actually never watched those shows but no way you think sl has surpassed them in popularity. SL will have to be this popular for at least 10 more years to even reach their popularity level.

The rise of solo leveling in the anime community just goes to show how the standards of anime watchers have dropped immensely. All they care about is what they can see on the screen. Nothing about solo leveling is of good quality apart from the top tier animation. This started last year with the release of certain anime (I won't give names but I'm sure you will know which I am talking about) that had a decent storyline but were full of well animated action and that's what the community loved about the shows. Solo leveling has a terrible story, extremely fast pacing to the point that no other character apart from the MC even gets decent screen time, an MC that pretty much infinitely scales in power and doesn't struggle in any fight, and an MC that has not lost a single fight the whole season. Is this really what people enjoy now? I can watch it and appreciate the good animation but it doesn't make me way "wow, I'm glad I watched that" or "that was a good anime" at the end of it. Good anime used to be hyped up a lot, especially if they had a good story and world building, good characters and character development. Now it's just about which anime has the best fight scenes and animation, when anime used to mean so much more than that before.

It has been the case since demon slayer release. Demon slayer is the most popular new gen anime, is even more popular than solo leveling or jjk but it's plot is mid. People nowadays mostly care about only animation and action.

Yep I think that was the turning point. A lot of people were introduced to anime in covid but their standards for a good anime were so low. And it doesn't help that anime already has a bad reputation with romance anime being associated with soft 🌽 but now it seems that the only anime that become popular are ones with good action and not much else. Demon slayer is OK but having read the whole manga, it isn't anything special imo. It's a fun watch or read, but like I said with solo leveling, it doesn't make me feel any different after having watched it. At least demon slayer has more story and emotional scenes in it, but there are so many lowkey and underrated anime that are much better even if they don't contain any action. This is why I quit watching anime- all the mainstream stuff is not very good anymore, and actually I felt deterred from watching any other anime that may be good because I feel like my taste in anime has been ruined by these popular anime and I wouldn't be able to appreciate a good story anymore.

When I read solo leveling for the first time I really liked the manhwa because the power scaling concept was kinda new at that time but after rereading it 2 years later i realised just how average that manhwa was lol probably that's what is happening with the anime community rn

exactly. when i read solo leveling, it was the second manwha i had read, and when i read the LN it was the first one i read. then i read other LNs, manwhas and webnovels and i can safely say that solo leveling has tumbled down the rankings as far as enjoyment goes. its sad to see how everyone thinks it is the best piece of fiction ever when it is nowhere near that.

its really good junk food but thats really it. Story wise it is mid and characters js feel incomplete. the only character i really liked was the chairman go dude caus ehe felt cmplete but most side characters have a one dimensional personality.

It really grew to popularity cause it had some of the best art for its time and the animtion of the anime is god tier.
