how important are they

Everything has to be about money nowadays, so surely it must be ok for sporting events to be played without crowds/fans right? Surely fan owned teams will survive with only money right?

Less fans implies less viewership which implies less interest from sponsors, etc... Yeah fans and public image are central factors in any sport

No fans, no sponsors, no money, no existence of sport, no one to carry forward legacy, no governing body, no business, no inflow of money

So overall fans are important

fans are important, but these ppl destroy the sport for money knowing that ppl will watch it anyway even if they dont like it maybe it'll decrease a bit but they still would

lmao no without fans there is no sales and no sales = no money and no fans = no sponsors since the whole point of sponsors is for fans to buy the products that the sponsors have and no live fans will drastically drop merch sales since a lot of people impulse buy esports shirts and stuff rather than go buy it cause they like how it looks

Well, literally everything. A team needs investors aka sponsors, and they need fans.

They are quite literally the most important. They are the consumers of the product, and businesses need them to make revenue.
