extremely unpopular opinion, but i tried listening to tyler the creator and i clicked off a minute in, what are some reasons you guys like rap(if you do)

a lot of tylers music isn't even rap and is extremely niche a lot of people hate tylers music because it's different so not a really great example if you tryna listen to rap centric stuff
ya because a lot of people listen to him doesn't mean his music isn't niche sounding tell literally ONE person that sounds like tyler
its mainstream rap bro 😭 just like frank ocean, just because their sound is unique doesn't mean the mainstream appeal isn't there, again, 48million listeners, not niche
are you high or something when did I anything about it not having mainstream appeal I just said his music has a niche sound so a lot of people dislike it. literally has nothing to do with how many people do like it like what lol?
For me personally, I'm really into wordplay and the beat selection (since I make beats myself, so it kind of goes hand-in-hand for me).
There's a lot of great rappers who are proficient at rhyme schemes, flows and even doing double/triple-entendres. You can get really creative with the lyrics since you can practically rap about anything you'd like. Some people rap about money, drugs & women, some people rap about life's existentialism.
I mean with Tyler, @pugboy said it best - it's extremely niche. If you want to see the raw Tyler, you'd have to listen to his earlier albums (like Wolf or Goblin) to get the gist of what he was going for in the beginning. But since he has evolved so much over the years, then his direction in his sound has changed too so I understand why you didn't like his stuff that much.
If you want some decent recommendations then Mick Jenkins, Freddie Gibbs, Ab-Soul, Willie The Kid are some artists that come up off the top of my head. I personally think these four artists are genuinely talented at wordplay, rhyme schemes & flows.
It's not everyone's cup of tea of course. But for me since I dabble with music production (and especially hip-hop/trap), then it just applies for me the best.
thats cus tyler's recent stuff is ass and people who like his music are weirdos
anime opening and video game soundtracks clears all genre of music, am i right kira?
the kendrick lamars and the eminems get quite boring
have you heard mf doom
i dont listen to a lot of rap but it has a very specific vibe and the lyricism is very cool
also tyler is goated fuck off
I'd recommend giving it a few chances and obviously not stopping after 1 minute. I didn't like rap for a very long time but I've gotten used to it and now I love it. Hip hop is very diverse, so if you can find a rap/hip hop album that is under a genre that you like, that might help ease you into it, that's what I did personally.
not unpopular opinion, its trash and theres 0 emotion in it, at least the stuff that comes out these days. Its all based off making catchy beats and getting rich, no passion in it
ok so im not crazy bc all my friends( im american) glaze the hell out of rap and whenever i ask why they dont give a straight answer
0 good takes in this entire thread wtf
except the estonian guy who wrote the paragraph but i’m not reading allat
listen to eminem's old songs maybe that'll change your perspective. If you dont like it then rap is not for you
At the end of the day, everyone's taste is different, and different things cater to different people
It's just not your thing, and that's okay!
no bro… off the grid is fire and there’s a few other bangers but it’s like 40 songs and 30 of them are just not good
ok yea maybe not top 20 but the fact that songs like this is not even top 20 is saying something
to vibe out or turn up its not that serious bro. some reccs: 4nem by chief keef, all of carti's albums, slime season 3 by young thug
Make sure you don't just have like a language/hearing disability. I have a slight issue decerning actual words from speech I can clearly hear, which is almost never noticeable. But it makes most rap (and really a lot of music) just gibberish. I only realized because I heard doechii and I like it because I can actually tell what she's saying.
I don’t really care for his music much but he’s a handsome guy and very popular so I’m going to claim him
i dont like rap at all.i dont even regard it as music.RAP IS JUST RAP in my opinion, but who cares ab me?
They said it is,then it is.
I think its kind of a cultural thing now not just musical.
Cause I also don't understand why people like rap so much.
