What is the thought process behind this decision?
True. Another first master and Mickey mouse allegations just cause of that reason.
very simple reasoning
they wanted to make:
masters 1 < masters 2 < champs
if both masters had 12 teams, then masters 1 and 2 would have been the same
im not saying this is a good thing though, just answering your question
yea and anyone winning master 1 would allegedly win mickey mouse tournament
people who think that are just upset that the team they hate won
any reasonable person would disagree
it's a good idea - i just see one problem with having 6 teams per region at champs
that's way too much, and we will have way too many teams that are just not that good
maybe top 2 seeds qualify to main event directly, and the other 16 teams fight in a huge swiss bracket (3 wins means you qualify, so total 8 teams qualify from the shit teams)?
And I would love to see the mid teams from each other fight each other tbh, would settle a lot of debate about which region is stronger
while i agree, i understand why they don't do it like that
if m1 and m2 are the same, then the qualification process should be the same as well
meaning that they have to have 3 splits per year, which is too much
A t1 team who doesn't qualify for any international event plays a max of 11 games in a year, how can adding 3 or 4 games too much??
sure, but teams that do qualify will play way more, because a round-robin (even 6 team groups) is already more games as an average team will play at kick-off, PLUS you have playoffs
what's the point of increasing the amount of games for teams that don't qualify - nobody wants to watch bad teams
the nobody wants to watch bad teams argument has to die, I swear
let's shut down all local football league's then and only let the top 5 leagues run, nobody watches the norwegian league anyway's because of how bad it is, right?
and I know it's not a perfect comparison, but what I'm saying is these "bad" team also have fans and will still bring in viewers, even if a smaller number.
i wasn't trying to say that bad teams shouldn't play or whatever - i am a fan of a shit team myself (arguably the worst in all vct)
but my point is that adding a third split would only benefit bad teams
sure, they will play 3-4 more games, but then good teams will play 3-4 more games PLUS playoffs
Basically RIOT wants to portray that Masters 2 and Champions is more important and relevant and worthy.
masters should have 16 teams and champions should have 24 teams
very simple
