guys, why is WORLDS considered the biggest tournament of the year in LoL but Champions is not (in Val) ? What is MSI and how is it different from Masters?
worlds is longer than msi, has many more teams (from the top regions especially, more competitive), and the patch for it releases a month in advance so teams have time to cook. the difference between msi and champs is less like masters 2 and champs and more like masters 1 and champs. this will probably change next year since they are adding a small tournament before msi
winning MSI is the same level as winning a masters, if not slightly more impressive.
Worlds is just a bigger tourney with way more prestige and hype around it (because of its history) than Val's champs, hence why it feels more important than MSI.
Also I can barely remember who wins masters, but I will always remember who won champs each year.
Thats a good question but I think they are 2 main reason :
In Valorant, historically master have almost same format and mush more team than in Champions.
How to make Champions count mush more than masters is a really interesting question and doesn't have mush answer, beside making only a master with 4 team (Or 8 teams, but dividing every region into 2 subregion and qual one team per subregion SA-NA, EU-CISTR, SEA-EA, CN-TW) that would make everyone cries, so maybe the solution is by changing champions format and make it really epic, mush longer, a fucking marathon
LoL viewership is just so much bigger than Valorant's in general.
Even before playoffs started Worlds 2024 had more than double the viewers of VCT Champions Grand Finals. Just to give an example G2 vs T1 (the most popular match from Worlds Swiss stage) had a peak of 3 million viewers, while the most watched valorant match OF ALL TIME doesn't even reach 1.7 million...
