Does anybody know why the age restriction for franchising exists? Esp when they allow any age to be in T2, and ascension is a thing. I don't understand what having players wait till they're 18 accomplishes, is it some sort of legal rule thing that Riot has to follow?

labor laws. not that they always apply to esports but I think Riot is playing it safe.

Berlin have problem with minors working
China is annoying with it too

So they just generalize the thing make it +18 although it’s kinda dumb

But in LoL the LCS 100T has a player that's 17 and also plays in LA.

Work laws (remember it is their job)
Insurance issues (they have to be insured as adults when travelling to LAN etc)

Ascension games are online so you can play anywhere and Germany has laws and all that

Besides what everyone already replied its also a way to not bring harm to Riot and VCT's image because imagine if 15 year olds could join franchising LOL. The amount of kids dropping school to join VCT would be crazy and im not even gonna talk about the ones that would fail and fuck up their lives because of it.

It's mostly the fault of certain laws in Korea (the good one) and Riot decided to make the league "fair" to keep that law for everyone and also to avoid problems with visas which is more complicated there are several reasons but these are the main ones

Everyone's mentioning labor laws which is true. On a similar note, it's possible that this restriction exists because of travel/visa restrictions certain players can face because of age, since airlines/countries are iffy on children traveling and esports is one of those few industries where travelling is an important part of the year (assuming your team qualifies obviously)
