So will there be two spots open for next year if both fail to reach champions or something?
From my perspective,
if the 1st & 2nd ascension team failed to defend their spot in VCT 2025, it'll be 2 spots / 2 winners of ascension for VCT 2026.
But if there is 1 ascension team who can defend their spot in VCT 2025, maybe there is only 1 winner of Ascension 2025 and get promoted to VCT 2026.
AND if there's 1 permanent/partner team failed to build the ecosystem of VCT 2025 (either due to financially problems, etc) they'll be demoted, and there'll be another slots from Ascension.
I dunno man, the system makes my brain no braining.
The last condition is not if they failed to build the ecosystem as much as if they failed with the requirements for franchised teams. Although no franchised team was actually removed so far, Bleed came from ascension. But even if this happens, Riot kind of can invite whichever team they want, it's not an extra ascension spot or anything.
I don't think it changes anything since they added BOOM and the new system already means one ascended team will be relegated no matter what (with chances of defending their T1 place on ascension tournament from 2025).
So it's pretty much a battle of Sin Prisa Gaming and BOOM next year to stay up.
edit: it says in the article
"BOOM are guaranteed this upcoming year, but according to the revised rule set regarding ascended teams, their performance within the VCT will most likely determine how long their stay lasts."
not really, if both go down then the top 2 of ascension go up.
"Relegate: If a team fails to make it to Stage 2 Playoffs (bottom 4 in IL), they will relegate back down to their respective Challenger League. If both Ascension teams are relegated, we will bring up two new teams to give them a shot at dethroning the best teams.".
Extend: If an Ascension team makes it to VALORANT Champions (top 4 in IL), they will extend their term for another year. If both Ascension teams make it to Champions, the team with the best performance at the tournament will stay while the other team will have the option to compete at Ascension for their spot.
Fight: If an Ascension team finishes top 8 in the IL, they will earn a chance to defend their spot. They will need to play in Ascension against the upcoming Challengers teams to see if they can re-earn their spot in the International League or fall back to Challengers.
So pretty much if both go to champs the best performance stays and the other competes for the spot, if both finish top 7 in the IL they just participate in ascension and two teams go up. The idea is to always keep at 12 no matter what.
