how are they so good?
was there a fps scene before valorant in korea?
they better than their neighbors (eg. japan, china)
a lot of Obscure Asian-F2P shooters in the Mid 2000s where only just Asia competing, basically around the CrossFire era Korea made so many Shooters in a similar aspect
for example games like Special Force (Soldier Front), SF2 (SKILL), Point Blank (Project Blackout) and also CrossFire (CF is a korean dev game, not chinese) alongside things like movement-based games such as GunZ, S4 League and of course CS-Online. (Special shoutout to A.V.A.)
but to be specific in the Tac FPS area, Korea is all about one single game Sudden Attack released in 2005 and it's just few years ago where VALORANT finally beat them in PC Cafe numbers, the game hangs onto Top 10 all these years
and then of course you have Overwatch as well as the standard CS and PUBG games
Bruh PNC is a 3 day exhibition event in PUBG lol. It isn't that relevant for actual international tournaments. And I am not really undermining Korea here before you think so. Pgc and pgs are the actual international tournaments that have bigger impact and value. And overall region strength Korea has been very weak for few years now. Dnw was the exception always carrying kr scene.
to be fair, i take global events that took place this year as a comparison, and Soniqs won the EWC, Korea won the PNC (granted its not the best example), and only PGC is left. So I naturally brought last year's result too and honestly, player wise I still think Korea is up there. Can't take the creds away from the winning teams/nations since all nations had same time to prac and some even had players from same team for PNC
korea >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> china in league dont forget that one
my guy brought up dota like that shit is existent in korea
bring up shit that both countries played
pubg korea clears
overwatch korea clears
league korea clears
starcraft korea clears
CS korea clears dont forget wemadefox
china just has population gap on korea but they are second best esports country by far.
Talking about regional strength lol
Now don't act like those kids who think msi don't matter when lck doesn't win it. Last year t1 won worlds but 3 lpl teams were in top 4 and jdg won msi. Regional strength wise china was better last year. This year tho lck has been better for sure not denying that.
Lol talk about present strength. Pubg china clears Korea. Bruh also who told Korea to not play the tournament that china plays or can't they? Even china clears in C's too.
And talking about overwatch same as your logic why even bring it in conversation then. Ow never got big in china had similar situation as Cs in Korea literally. Even dota 2 isn't popular in china. Not even top 20 game in china yet china does well.
bro china has 1.5 billion population, idk why you dont understand that what korea is doing in esports is levels more impressive than china
1.5 billion population compared to 55 million. Dont forget that part and overall strength il admit china usually always has more depth but imo that means nothing if more than half of them arent doing anything anyways. Korea might have 2-4 teams but they are better than most chinese teams. I will always take quality over quantity, but thats just me. China is amazing at esports, possibly maybe even the best. But as a korean I will not admit that when korea has just as much of an argument in their own way. Korea quality, china more quantity.
China is very impressive too tho cause you have to understand like Korea eSports still isn't as developed or accepted in china. also they are very widespread in many titles mainly mobile. Even League popularity is decreasing from what my Chinese friend said cause of mobile gaming industry. And that government rule of china might seem not that big but has decreased the number of talents so much. Yeah Korea is very impressive too but they also are like the eSports hub where eSports literally started to develop. Still both are impressive but for me Brazil or eu region are probably the most impressive in eSports nowadays. Also I would argue that population doesn't play too big of a factor after it reaches one point. I would say history and interest matter more.
Brazil is probably the most impressive recent region development.
EU has been around since eSports was a thing, similarly to Korea.
I think overall KR just has too much legacy to be dethroned by China just yet. Even in terms of recency KR > CN at LoL. Since 2018 KR has the same amount of Worlds titles as CN (2020, 2022, 2023 vs 2018, 2019, 2021), with all 3 Worlds winning CN teams having 2 KR players. But tbh 2018 and 2019 don't really count because they were in the CN scene for a while.
Go anywhere before 2018 and KR is overwhelmingly better than CN.
I don't follow Overwatch much these days but as I understand it CN<=KR in OWL and CN has yet? to win any OWWC titles?
CN clears KR in CS for sure. Maybe PUBG idk. KR is the best EA region in Apex yes? REJECT Winnity I think won the recent tournament or something?
Korea's major gamerbase is still heavily skewed towards LoL. I think PUBG/OW kind of died out a bit and Valorant is the only game on the rise.
Overall eSports china has a slight edge rn over Korea but yeah Korea has the legacy. Also forgot Russia lol. Russia actually might be the most impressive country in eSports for me. Dota 2, C's, valo ,PUBG pc. They have shown very impressive results in so many eSports. Also yeah league or ow aren't the only eSports. And is ow eSports still alive at all?
