How widespread is this?

Free rider problem: you benefit from other org's ( prx zeta etc) and riot's money without doing anything or doing with minimal effort. (Just search the free rider problem on Google you'll get a better idea 😂)

I think this is one of the problem that riot forgot to consider when creating franchising.

free rider problem is common in franchising leagues in other sports as well. Charlotte Hornets are just there, As in baseball are just there, closed league by default enables some orgs not to win or try to just earn as much as possible

So it is a common problem. I think riot should give them a scare a little to get them working..

I mean you could theoratically entertain relegation, buuuuuuuuuuut then the entire point of franchising is nullified

I'm thinking of handing the power back to riot, riot can just cut spending on teams that are not willing to cooperate or can't make the effort to earn money.

Relegation is great for competitive integrity but we can't have zeta relegated(hypothetically) because they are riot's top earner.

good idea, but then are you sure there will be orgs willing to enter vct?

Idk about others but I'm kinda convinced that japanese orgs are willing to, these mfs are so proactive , academy team in tier2 sounds crazy considering the fact that it took riot having to change academy team rules just so Talon and ( possibly) DFM to actually start forming academy teams.

I think regardless of their financial performance, I think japanese orgs make a better partner for riot rather than some T1 orgs.

you talk about japanese orgs, but you can't really have all the japanese orgs take the place of GE and their copycats, who are just hanging around

Yeah, shame that we can't make this happen 😔

The benefits to being franchised drastically outweigh the negative possibilities. Having some kind of relegation that isn't necessarily performance based, but is more behavior based is basically required for the scene to be as good as it can be, and Riot does already have this power and seems to be at least entertaining the idea of using it

I mean I have seen some people say that it's esports winter rn, so who knows if some teams are willing to expand into other games

literally MIBR, signing cheap embarrassing team and using their VCT money on CS lmao

Imo giving teams money just for being in the league, and not having any sort of "punishment" for finishing last is a mistake

Nah I'm not talking about finishing last, if they can make tons of money doing so riot won't bat an eye, although doing so will leave a bad taste on the fans tho, so riot has an interest in making sure you don't perform like ass

Esports is already a really big loss of money for esports orgs so having the incentive of just being a t1 team gets you money gets more teams interested in joining the valorant scene and is (supposedly) meant to make the organization have a higher level of production quality (videos, players, content, houses, set ups etc.)

I honestly think they should make it so teams who don't make Champs don't earn Champs money, it's a bigger incentive to make Champs than the current system where everyone earns Champs money but qualifying teams earn a higher percent
