the pre match and post match conferences are just filled with like WEIRD questions, riot doesn't want to be known as CS copy but are literally doing nothing differen't to CS. A more structered production of post/pre conferences would be sick. imagine the hype and fucking insane anticipation champs would have right now if riot put more production into pre/post conference?

  1. trash talking should be allowed to an extent, brings more viewers and creates better story lines.
  2. better reporters, i mean no disrespect but im not tryna hear questions like "how did you feel when your idol gave you a wink, did you cum onstage?"
  3. more events, i know theres no way you guys making bundles that are the exact same copy of other bundles and charging 80 to be broke. MORE EVENTS
  4. we as fans gotta stop shitting on players whenever they trashtalk and flooding their twitter replies with disgusting messages, sure you can say "HAHAHA Loser" but theres no need for "ky5" or shit like that.

Val has been around for 4 years

I still wonder what it has to do with trashtalk?

But I feel like Val would be much much worse than now in 20 years from now.

Pretty accurate. Val playerbase has apparently experienced shrinkage in the last 8 months. CS playerbase has always grown consistently.

28 million monthly players in October 2023, 19 million monthly players in the last 30 days. Bare in mind summer holidays I'd expect a slight bump.

In comparison I know September 2023 CS2 hit 31.5 million monthly players and in July 2024 was just over 26 million monthly players.

Obviously there are trends of games decreasing in playerbase from September to August then getting an increase around end of Summer.

Valorants drop off seems more stark however.

From the research I got on the CS2 playerbase 10-30% accounts are actually Case Farming accounts instead of active accouns.

I would be extremely surprised if it was higher than 5% considering I've played CS for over 7 years now and have never even spoken to someone with a case farming account. They're likely an insular community but I can't imagine them being that large of the player base if it's rare to ever come across one of them outside of that part of the community.

Additionally, the 3rd party stats account for things such as community servers only and suchlike. Neither takes into account smurfs unfortunately.

TBF it's not easy info to get. Valve leaves all their information open on player counts but counts only active players daily, so 3rd parties have had to calculate the monthly unique players. Riot only releases their figures vaguely and for PR so it's all done through 3rd party that only tracks monthly unique players.

so is is is valorant actually dying and cs2 growing?

#43

It's honestly hard to tell. CS has retained stable growth over many years even though it's primarily EU. Although EU has the most widespread computer ownership per capita compared to other regions. It may continue to grow, I can't see Valve flopping it personally.

Val isn't dying but I think the hype has died down so it's getting less new players and it doesn't seem to retain players as well as CS. I know the EMEA playerbase has definitely shrunk over time but I can't speak for the worldwide distribution.

Odds are they will both co-exist, but Valorant is not the CS killer many thought it would be.

I feel like the tides could theoratically turn if valve play their cards right. Valve can just legit go full send and make the first major in 2025 have the sticker money go into the prize pool turning the esports scene on its head. Like imagine valve host a major in Austin, USA, make it a 100 million dollar event ( sticker money + bundle money + compendium money can realistically make this a thing) and right before the final they would announce a brand new anti cheat with the operation, and then constant quality of life upgrades every 3 weeks. This shit would legit turn so many people, especially if vct continues to lose viewership

different demographics imo. valorant has a younger viewerbase, that's why trash talking is sushed down. CS is more mature. Also investors as well might not take trashtalking lightly, like imagine seeing a RED BULL CLUTCH followed by zellsis double middle fingers while screaming ''you guys fucking suck''

you can switch over to cs esports any time. if you are looking for hype, then almost any S-tier (almost any because fucking Pro League exists) can pull a huge crowd, just look at dallas, chengdu, sydney, lisbon.

just FYI, coming month, the biggest event is Blast at the end of september (epl is hosted in malta, really small crowd), Blast Fall Final will be hosted at the awesome Royal Arena, followed by IEM Rio and World Final before the entire tier 1+2 scene arrive to Shanghai for regional qualifiers for the Major and the Major itself.

I mean I have nothing better to do, so I will drop a quick synopsis
This year the main heroes of the scene are:
Spirit - the underdog team, led by their 17 year old prodigy in donk who has immediately gone on to fight for top 1 in his debut year, storming to an easy victory at IEM Katowice in February, with donk posting a record breaking debut
Vitality - led by the great Zywoo of France, gunning for his 4th record breaking Top 1, fresh off an IEM Cologne win where a struggling Vitality who were yet to win an event this year have broken the curse of their captain and leader, Apex, who couldn't win in Cologne in the previous 3 finals
NaVi - a team of misfits who lost their major winning core and s1mple, the GOAT of CS GO and who everyone treated as a tier 2 failure has gone on to win the first major of CS2 in Copenhagen and then backed up their claim for being a legit title contender with 2 finals at Blast Spring Final and IEM Cologne and a victory at Esports World Cup
FaZe - the team who initially dominated CS2 have first been stunned by Spirit at IEM Katowice and then, despite overcoming Spirit in the quarterfinals of the major and vitality in the semis, lost to navi in an upset, denying karrigan the 2nd Major Win of his career in front of the danish home crowd and sending FaZe into a downward spiral
MOUZ - a team who lost their leader in frozen to faze in december have seemingly recovered quite easily, making the playoffs and deep runs fairly consistently, but always falling at the final hurdle to more experienced teams. They have picked up some trophies in EPl and BB Dacha, but they are yet to prove themselves at huge LANs
G2 - probably the most CONTENT lineup. m0nesy is probably the 2nd coming of s1mple, joined by NiKo, the GOAT Rifler of CS GO and his cousin hunter have been consistent playoff worthy teams and now they have malbsMD, the Central American prodigy who shattered donk in their first meeting and who came to them from M80 with Snax, one of the greatest polish players to play the game as their IGL.
Other Teams which might join these title contenders soon: Team Liquid, Mongolz, Astralis, SAW, complexity (the NA Hope alongside Liquid) and a lot of south american teams in 9z pain imperial furia and mibr

they ask about anything EXCEPT the game and the promotion of the game, im not gonna get hype because zellsis is gonna bring a banner and twerk on stage, what the fuck. maybe alittle YO IM GONNA SMASH THESE GUYS 13-0 would be more exciting than that shit. they also ask players if they simp for aspas or what ever player they dream of. i get it its a respect thing but im not gonna watch 2 men gawk gawk each other at a press conference, give us some hype and reason to watch the game.

#25

but I actually don't understand why they ask this, why even host fucking interviews to the entire team before the game, there is no espn, no cnn, wtf is this

players still trash talk pretty often but sponsors dont want cursing so it makes sense its not as good. i think it will also get better when the players get older. val players are young and they dont want to get harassed just cause they called a team or region bad

Agree but riot has always been soft and what enables them further is how soft the community of valorant is. U cant even type or say something to a teammate doing bad cus its toxic or they will totally lose their shit lmao

#30

might be a hot take, but toxicity is actually good. I have seen the biggest improvements to my game after I played like shit and my random teammates told me multiple times how shit I was. quote from the great film Whiplash ''There are no two words in the English language more harmful than 'good job''

I blame Riot for this shit. Not putting enough effort into trying to make ur esport product look better and at the same time putting fines for players just doing random taunts is just a recipe for disaster

Fuck Leo Faria and Jake Sin. They should've been fired long ago.

Most people who play valorant don't give two shits about the competitive scene, I've yet to meet any valo player who genuinely follows even the major tournaments.
As an esport, cs is leagues ahead.
