Bringing out a take today but cs is a way better spectator sport than valorant and its not even close imo. The problem with CS is their fans have valorant rent free in their minds even during a premier event like this. Only thing close to this level of esports in val was loud vs fnatic at lock-in.

Fair point, I expect valorant esports to be better in the coming future. Need them to stop fucking up the songs tho.

all it needs are great OBS, not watering down the competition and showing the crowd, then they get it

I mean valorant just didn't have good venues for their tier 1 events, and even when they do have them the OBS somehow ignores them or makes them quieter. CS has a good crowd anywhere except for Malta ( 150 people crowd) and Sheikh countries ( small venues). I like valorant because it at least makes valve do something time to time, but as an esports, CS clears. And I also dislike valorant's franchising, it is more about entertainment, not the quality of the sport. I would argue that this cross-region rivalry only brews rivalry for the sake of rivalry, i find na rivalries more intense, like Sentinels vs NRG will be a more personal matchup than Sentinels vs EDG every time

While I agree on most points, I do think cross regional rivalry is a good thing the power of nationalism is a great to boost interactions/general passion for the game eg olympics.

I feel like franchising can lead to just one region shitting on other regions and therefore making it more of a joke than competition. Europe seems more concerned with cs, south america has 0 place to show its talents, franchising is slowly killing it, NA seems like the best region, China and Pacific are holding quite strong, however at this time they can only boast 2-3 strong teams out of 10

I agree with the franchising part. Riot could have done a lot better for t2 imo. Like there's so many studs in eu t2 but I just could not give a fuck because the formatting is so fucked. I think the Asian apac formating is alr but maybe it's because I'm more interested in it. SA did get fucked very hard should have been 2 separate regions imo.

So then franchising can just lead to NA shitting on everyone, EMEA just folding completely and then it's GGs for the cross-region rivalry, heck, maybe even the esports scene dying

Love apex esports one of the few esports like val in which you can say it's a global thing with a lot of different regions competing and having a chance to win. But it's tough to enjoy the esports when the game is fucked. Love the new season tho.

the thing with CS they have been around for so long its insane, most of the people in the stands are in their mid 30's and grew up on 1.6, I've attended 2 Majors and I can say the crowd is fucking insane.

I feel like the topic is beaten to death but the crowds are just not it. Might be because the target demographic is different from cs but the crowds are just so different.
