Steel will likely assume the IGL role, which T1 has lacked since the departure of DaZeD. This development has also been reported by George Geddes of Upcomer and independently confirmed by sources close to VLR.gg.
T1 was the first major organization to enter Valorant after the game's initial beta release in June 2020. Headlined by notable CS:GO players Braxton "brax" Pierce and Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham, the star-studded roster was expected to bring championships to T1. However, the team was unable to produce consistent results in large part due to several roster changes. Additionally, the team has lacked a vocal leader since the departure of Sam "DaZeD" Marine.
Steel joined 100T in September of 2020 and immediately led the team to a first-place finish in First Strike: North America, cementing the team's place atop North American Valorant. Their first major hurdle appeared as they failed to qualify for Masters Reykjavik, but the team rebounded by qualifying for Berlin after beating XSET 2-0 in Stage 3 Challengers Playoffs.
Bolstered by a plethora of collective LAN experience, 100T made the playoffs at Masters Berlin, where they narrowly beat Acend 2-1 in the quarterfinals. However, with a Champions spot on the line via circuit points, 100T folded under the pressure in the semifinals, falling 0-2 to Envy in convincing fashion. Unable to qualify for Champions at Berlin, they would have to fight through the NA LCQ for their last chance at Champions.
Less than a month before the start of NA LCQ, 100T unexpectedly benched Steel. This move saw Aaron "b0i" Thao, the team's analyst, replace Steel, while former IGL Nick "nitr0" Cannella returned to the role once again.
In the LCQ, 100T found themselves in the lower bracket final after falling 1-2 to Rise. There, they faced Cloud9 Blue, who clinched the series with a resounding map 3 victory, ending 100T's Champions aspirations.
100T's future is unclear amidst the exit of head coach Hector "FrosT" Rosario and nitr0's rumored departure, but one certainty is that Steel will not be returning to 100T. Steel's addition to T1 will aim to add a level of leadership that the team has been lacking, bringing hopes of a more successful year for the organization.
