I overslept maps 1-2 of DRX - GEN.G
Was the game close? Are DRX competitive?
super harsh to call team losing from 5-2, especially against GENG. Choking is NRG chocking 12-5 lead, teams losing 9-3 lead, 11-6 lead, and so on. a mere 3 round difference against a team that has highest thrifty rate and the best itw isn't choking. Not even a mental issue, GENG just a level above DRX with how they manage their util and take map control
Actually, I do think this was a choke. Or at least mentally it was. DRX just won a map and were up against geng, and their mental should have been strong. When geng started their win streak, I wondered if it was all geng or was it drx losing confidence. Did you notice the round they won on attack to get them to 5-2 was off the back of a nice 2k from flashback, and once he got that, the entire team moved with confidence? It is clear that this iteration of DRX has a mental issue. They were afraid of geng. Their peeks were less confident, aim less sharp and the way they moved made them look scared. Geng played amazing obviously, but their playstyle also made DRX painfully uncomfortable and it was too difficult for me to watch. It's like watching a snake wrap around their prey and squeezing them tighter and tighter, I know it's a stupid analogy but it was actually painful to watch drx go through that on bind. Geng are really really good at doing that to their opponents, and I don't think this was a drx issue completely, but was made worse by the lack of confidence drx normally gets when they encounter tough opponents like geng. They aren't like paper rex who are confident in their aim even in their losses, and the team has a lot of rookies which is at times a double edged sword. DRX needed someone to get those couple of 1 on 1 duels to overcome their fear, but no one was able to do that in the second half of bind.
