Riot has reconsolidated SEA back into one big region.
The change will unite Indonesia, MY/SG, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and HK/TW into one challenger league.
This results in APAC now having 5 challenger leagues: South East Asia, South Asia, Oceania, Korea and Japan.

What do you guys think?
Personally it makes the challenger league easier to follow however it could really hurt the development of certain nations/subregions.
Really hope they try to maintain each subregion having 2 teams in the league, valorant being popular across so many nations is one of the most enjoyable things to me. Losing this edge because one region starts to overtake SEA would be a shame.

JPN has too big a viewership to not be its own region.

KR T2 is kinda dead. Despite all the talent Korea has, orgs are not investing. Thats why all the good players go to JPN/CN so they can play and get paid well

Orgs are not investing? They have 7 signed orgs out of the 8 and the only non signed one is a content creation org. Maru, incheon on2sl, cnj, wgs is also struggling to get out of t3 despite being proper organizations

Those orgs are paying minimum wage. Just cause the players are signed doesn’t mean they’re paid well. There’s a reason why so many Korean players go to Japan.

Id assume this was done for financial reasons with the TOs being unable to sustainably run these small region without riot support.

So Im not completely against it, however I do feel like this is a bit much? I understand consolidating a few struggling regions into 1 (similar to what some of us in EMEA wanted with Dach and Polaris merge), but 6 at once is a bit overkill imo

Its gonna suck for t2 players rn. Lots of people gonna lose their spots on such short notice, and developing new talent is gonna be a lot harder with so few t2 slots and (afaik) no established t3 scene.

I think its fine at the end of the day. Riot rushed franchising and had a vision of t2 that they just didnt leave enough times for the local scenes to develop. This was bound to happen in APAC and EMEA anyways, so even though this feels far too much, far too quickly its probably for the best.

Mixed feelings about this, it is true that some leagues like Philipines had 3 decent orgs and 7 irrelevant teams, but idk, 6 regions into 1 is too much.

winning split 2 challengers in your respective regions will get you a spot in ascension. Teams that get to ascension will have to fight to get to the Tier 1 League(VCT Pacific in this case) . The changes mentioned above will happen after ascension concludes

if they want to merge SEA tier 2 val esport scene, then surely they have to build a good tier 3 environment. TH, ID, PH, MY/SG has a massive and good player base. each of the current league is pretty competitive with a lot of surprises even tho there is 1 or 2 team dominating the league. move those 2 teams to the new league, the rest of the teams will need a competition too, to gain more exp. premiere isn't enough.

SEA is getting more slots prob 4 but I don't think anyone gets less than 2 slots for ascension either.
Think logically man now that every league will have 16 teams, how will it make sense that 16 teams would battle for only 1 slot ??
Nobody will invest unless everyone gets minimum 2 slots

Why I feel like this is good in general? Although I understand it is unfair for some small teams, but the solid tier 2 teams like Boom, Full sense Mith will get higher exposure when they competing in a large league.
We have to accept that, some of the leagues has no viewership that they need to be changed. Mith versus Boom will be interesting

It encourage teams to step up their game and be more competitive

To me merge was important regions where too small and not viable, but they merge too many regions, we should have keep a T2 region for Malay speaking only (ID-MY), and a T2 region for Hong Kong server only (VN-PH-TW), buyt six in one where TOO MUSH
