why auto-qualify first seed based on regional results? it makes no sense and 2 first seeds just went out 0-2. it made it so groups was kinda boring as well
Whats wrong with gettiing put through to playoffs because of being first seed? You get to watch a lot of games, so you get to peek into the strats of all the teams who played and you dont have to go thorugh a grouping stage? You cant just say it makes no sense bc two first seeds are out, they lost fairly and them losing is on them, not the format
i mean that i don't feel they showed good enough play to warrant putting them through to playoffs. regional results are not that important and most teams are just playing to qualify to internationals, not place regionally. it would be better if they would have to show their ability internationally before playoffs. i thought the format was bad before too, 0-2 just proves my point
i think you can give first seeds other advantages that are more fair. for example, at past tournaments we've had higher seeding in the group stages. I think it would also be a good idea to fix the champs points structure so teams are more rewarded for high placements in the regional leagues by making it easier for them to qualify out of them at the end of the year. honestly with 12 teams it's rough but you could do swiss stage with 12 or even 4 round robin groups where top 2 teams in each group qualify for playoffs. im sure there are other ideas too, especially if it was a 16 team tournament
I think if it was a 16 team tournament, putting 1st seeds straight into playoffs is a must, because the amount of games that would need to be played in a 16 team group stage would make the tournament run for maybe even10 days longer than usual. And you can argue about the 1st seed advantage being a little too unfair going straight to playoffs, but if they changed it to just giving 1st seeds higher seeding in group stage to make it 'fairer', a 1st seed will inevitably just lose out eventually at an event. Then people will call format bad, 1st seed advantage will be called useless and the cycle will repeat itself.
The current format right now isnt perfect, but its not as bad as people make it out to be. Its also annoying how people rather criticize the format than compliment teams stepping up against higher seeds.(not geng vs fnc obviously)
all im saying is they should be given such a big advantage since they haven't shown to be much better than the other teams yet. think about how often in the past top teams get upset in groups. it makes the whole tournament more interesting if you let teams play it out rather than place some teams above others internationally
