With the American's exit, mitch is now the only remaining player from the original Cloud9 roster that joined the organization in the early stages of the game. The team had great showings throughout 2020, with top placements across several tournaments, but faltered in 2021.
Cloud9 failed to make an impression in Stage 1 Challengers events, peaking in the top eight of qualifiers in a 2-0 defeat to T1. Before that, they had exited twice in the top 16, being knocked out by Gen.G and Immortals.
Prior to the start of Stage 2, they attended the NSG March Monthly, which saw a renovated C9 take down Version1, Ghost, Renegades, and finally Andbox in the Grand Finals. They continued their performance in the following VCT event, taking down Gen.G and Immortals in the Stage 2: Challengers 1 Qualifier and Main Event, respectively. However, consecutive defeats to 100 Thieves and Version1 saw them exit the tournament early.
Cloud9 Blue's second chance comes in the Stage 2: Challengers 2, played between April 22 and 26. The team will fight among Andbox, Built By Gamers and Immortals, plus four qualified teams, for four spots at the NA Challengers Finals. At that event, the top two will be drafted into Stage 2: Masters Reykjavik, the first international Valorant LAN.
