The Impact of Elo on Caster Opinions in Esports

I came across a Twitter discussion questioning the importance of the rank of casters. Of course, having a deep understanding of the gaming scene, gameplay mechanics, and other factors is always a positive aspect. However, do you think it is a crucial factor?

I can speak for the Brazilian scene where our three main casters are Radiant, with some competitive experience, the analysis and comments they bring to the table are excellent. I see a similar trend with Sliggy and TMV as well even tho, they don't work for Rito.

Entertaining casters with good charismatic presences are also pretty important. But having good knowledge and knowing what are the right things to focus on do make the experience nicer imo.

TMV isn’t a great example bc he’s gold or something. Sliggy was radiant, and obv his coaching exp makes a huge diff. I think most of plat chat peaked immortal something, so that’s still firmly in the upper percentile.

Could be wrong, but I thought Balla was the only high ranked one & the rest are in the slums of plat/dia.

I think diamond/asc mostly. But eh I’m lower than that so I can’t speak.

I think you're right, they're Diamond, Plat

Balla is def the best and is consistently immortal or high ascendant.
Think sideshow only hit immortal once or twice and both times he was in EU. Typical easy servers
Bren is like a diamond player who has been immortal once or twice as well but he got there in NA which is harder

balla is the only high immo, the rest (bren, sideshow, mimi) are fluctuating between asc/immo generally

I dont think its relevant

Just looking at public reception the audience has never payed attention to what casters are the most knowledgeable. Did anyone ever say that Mitchman was the best caster? Because imo in 2022, Mitch+Tom were the best when it came to reading what teams were doing and telling the viewer before it happened.
coincidentally https://www.vlr.gg/player/9265/mitchman was analyst of THE t2 team of early 2021
Why is Ryan now completely out of t1 casting despite coaching a successful GC team?

I just feel like as long as the casters have a decent understanding and arent completely clueless people dont pay enough attention for it to truly matter. And our current "big" casters all spend a ton of time with valorant and have a better understanding than 99% of viewers, and thats enough imo.
I dont need Hypoc to be top 3 in ranked when he can already pop into a twitch chat and nerd out about the game he just casted, or randomly appear as a guest in an analysis video on youtube.

Think this is the right take. While there’s some overlap in what you learn as a high-level player that would help your casting, the casters study the game differently than a player, coach, or analyst. It’s almost a mix of the three.

Climbing ranked is 90% about mechanics and most casters/analysts don't want to put in that grind. As long we can see that they know what they're talking about or aren't in pisslow it doesn't matter.
