Playoff format problem

Paper rex is likely to win group c. A team worse than paper rex is likely to win group A, the winner of group B plays paper rex(or other winner of group c) to try to get to masters. Group A winner plays against the play in winner.

Given this, is DRX incentivised to throw group B to wipe play-ins, and play the arguably weaker group A winner to get to masters?

Where is this maths coming from. If it includes each match being a 50/50 I'm not hearing it. Especially with teams like DFM existing💀

Lemme break it down

If DRX get through play in, they CANNOT face the team that got out first seed in their group

They would have 2 possible matchups
1 vs Group A winner or 1 vs group C winner

Assuming Prx wins group C, they have a 50% (1/2) chance of playing them

I feel I must have an extreme misunderstanding of the brackets. On vlr it says that the playin winner always plays against the group A winner, is this wrong?

If I understand correctly, winner of playin will go against winner of group A except if winner of playin is the 2nd of group A, right ?
So in that Scenario:

DRX would have 100% chance to not play against PRX if they go through playin
DRX would have 33% chance to not play against PRX if they finish first

Your stats are correct if the pairing is random but didn't they say it wasn't the case ?

No

It would be random no matter what. The only requirement is you don’t play the team from your group

the graphic they put out is really dumb and doesn’t explain this but the play in winner is never gonna play against the team that won their group in first round of playoffs, so if for example bleed wins the play ins they’ll play either the group B winner or group C winner to qualify

Well no problem because the Madrid qualifiers will both be out of group C
