so every team in the playoffs has essentially a "second life" in the lower bracket. the team to make it to the grand finals would not have used up that life, hence being undefeated in the upper bracket. so my question is, is there a bracket reset for the grand finals of champs? ik there wasnt in tokyo or sao paolo but this is champs so I thought if there was, it would be here.

Rocket league uses bracket reset but ill try to explain it.
Throughout the playoff bracket, each team essentially has 2 lives. Lose a match = lose a life, and your sent to lowers. If you lose in lowers, you lose your last life and exit the tournament.
Since the Grand finalist via upper bracket hasn't lost a life yet, they still have 2 lives. Of course the grand finalist via lower bracket is on their last life. If the lower seed wins the series, then both sides are on 1 final life. The teams play another series, called "bracket reset". This determines the winner of the tourney. If the upper bracket finalist wins the first series, then a bracket reset won't be done
The idea is to have the virtues of a double-elim bracket to pertain to all the teams and matches, even if you made it to GF without losing.
I doubt riot would ever add bracket resets to vct cuz bo5 are super long and multiple full length series's between the same teams would tire out players and fans
they do this in Smash as well. In top 8 brackets they play double elim bo5s, but for grand finals the person coming from the lower bracket has to win 2 bo5s against the person who made a run through winners side, essentially making their opponent lose twice.
It's kinda impossible to do this with a game like Valorant/CSGO because of how long matches usually are so Riot counteracts this by giving the winners' side team the buff of being able to ban 2 maps in the grand finals match.
1 map advantages are anti climatic and less intuitive for new viewers. One less map played in your grand final also isn't great for sponsors. The map veto, prep time advantage and lower amount of vods for the other team are enough especially given how huge of an advantage the upper bracket team has in the veto
2 Map veto isnt even that much of an advantage in a bo5, 5 maps will be played, you get to ban the lower bracket team best map and your worst map, but you would be able to ban their best map anyway if you didn't have the advantage, and if your best/worst map and the lower bracket team best/worst map overlaps then its useless too, also i can argue that playing more games on stage actually gives you an advantage, at Tokyo for instance Loud went straight to playoffs and then lost to EG and EDG both group stage teams that played matches on stage before, and Loud players said on the interview that they felt like they went to these matches "cold".
