tips?
cross country is really more of a mental sport than people think
you need to fight against any urge to slow down/stop, these are killers for races
a clear head during a race and focusing on each next step you take (metaphorically and literally) will help you greatly
as long as you push yourself each and every time you run, your times eventually will improve (ofc, at a certain point you do need to begin a certain training regimen/etc to get faster, but that's once you start getting really really fast)
also get good shoes, bad shoes will hurt your feet and are generally just not enjoyable to run in
Just keep working and the results will come. I started running in the summer of freshman year and ran 19:40 for my first 5k. Now I am going into junior year. My pr is 17:00 from sophmore year but I hope to run around 16:00. I probably won’t run in college since I am not a star, but I will continue to stay fit.
