help
i used to be one, but its been such a long time since i was into it and i dont know SHIT anymore about recent hardware
looking to upgrade my GPU since I'm still running a 1060 and its starting to struggle, especially on any new release
considering a few options (amd 7600, 3060, 4060, if i can find a cheap Ti of the nvidia cards, those too)
which one out of these would be the best one to pick up? I heard the 7600 was pretty solid (and its cheap...) but i really dont know

EDIT:
general consensus seems to be between 6700XT and a 3060 (ti)
Im probably gonna pick between these two - i dont just game, im learning Blender and will be doing content creation shit so it should be solid for those two as well
Thanks!

i have a rtx 2080 and have never experienced performance problems, u really dont need a top of the line new graphics card

dude you have a newer gpu than mine, not to mention its the fucking 80 tier
you have the best possible card from the 2000 series
Im running a 1060 the difference in performance from my card to yours is immense

talking about this "(amd 7600, 3060, 4060" im just pointing out u dont need the newest cards

The new Intel cpus are pretty bussin actually, especially i5 13600k(or kf), as for gpus, pure value wise ig an rtx 3060 ti is the most value for money rn, especially if u can get one used, at that point ur getting incredible bang for buck, especially for valorant, i would also suggest sticking to ddr4 for now

how is a 3060 ti best value rn when the 6700 xt exists

what's your CPU?
also what do you use your computer for? is it just solely gaming or do you do like content creation or something? (tbf it doesn't matter just get an amd card unless you're like a very big content creator and it's much much cheaper, don't get any of the new cards though)

ryzen 5600X
not worth upgrading rn, plenty good

right now, PC is just for gaming really, but ive been learning blender and am planning to start a little bit of content creation so id like for the stuff to be capable for that as well

do you have like a budget?

#14

yea pretty low
200-350 is my range for a card

#15

I think 6650 xt is very good at that range, or if you want an NVIDIA card then 3060 is pretty good too 6650xt is worth more for the money though

I recommend to strictly buy an Nvidia card if you are doing anything apart from Gaming and stuff.

AMD cards are actually better FPS/dollar value in the mid tier GPU market (3060/4060) however they just straight up suck ass at anything else apart from Gaming.

Your CPU is good enough and should not bottleneck most mid tier GPUs nowadays. I would probably recommend you get the 4070 if you can afford it or maybe go with the 4060 when its available near you.

i would say get a 40 series and look at the resaleability of it

oh hell nah the current gen nvidia and amd cards are just straight theft 💀
none of the cards really worth the price that they've put, unless you want like top of the top 4090 or some shit

if you do ML or something like that get Nvidia or else AMD does the job better with ur 5600X

If you want to try the recent AAA titles, I suggest you grab a GPU with 12GB of VRAM. Something like a 6700XT. RTX 3060 has 12gigs too but it is really weak for recent AAA releases. Do not grab the 7600, it is a scam.

If you want to play at 1440p. 1080p is a bit kore lenient for VRAM, but 12gb is more future proof.

Dude no game is gonna eat 12GB of VRAM at 1080p. The stuff you have been hearing about games taking upto 10GB of VRAM have been for extremely unoptimized games when running on high resolutions with max graphics.

If you are buying a mid-tier GPU you will never run your game at those settings anyways. VRAM is an issue but honestly, it feels like it has been overblown by AMD fanboys on how big of an issue it really is.

If you wish to play the game at a high resolution, you will have to use DLSS which does not consume nearly as much VRAM as the game's native postprocessing effects do.

Getting a 10GB card is OK IN 2023. You are running a bit on the edge over here though so I would still recommend getting a 12GB card but there needs to be an end to the VRAM bloat nonesense.

im running 1440p so 12gb is probably a good idea
besides like the other guy said, its more future proof

If you plan on playing recent AAA titles, you need to target the current gen console specs. PS5 has 16GB of VRAM and Xbox has 12GB. So the games releasing now will require that many gigs of VRAM. Games are always optimized with the consoles in mind. So having 12gigs guarantees smooth game play for the current gen games.

VRAM is not the most important spec in a GPU. Keep in mind both PS5 and Xbox use AMD graphics. They don't utilize CUDA Cores, RT Cores or Tensor Cores.

AMD's FSR and Ray Tracing aren't true hardware acceleration. It just utilizes their compute cores to perform these calculations. On the PC you have framegen and DLSS which makes you experience much better than what any console would give you with mid-high-end graphic cards.

Don't compare GPUs just on the basis of VRAM. If that were the case, Nvidia's commercial end cards like the H100 have around 80GB VRAM yet perform worse than integrated graphics in games. There is much more to such cards that PC reviewers just don't understand.

Rx 6700XT, offers the best price to performance right now.
Let me give you a cheatcode.

Watch two or three of this guy's videos specifically about GPU or even builds, you will get a hang of what's up with the current merket. I was in a similar spot to you as well, like being a pc nerd but an old one, as I didn't keep up with the new releases.

6700xt is much better than nvidia
I have used both the cards and i m currently using 6700xt and it feels value for money.

6700 XT, 12gb of vram, great performance and with a good price, although you might need to remove all your drivers and download new amd ones, good only if you just game
'But since you do blender i recommend 3060 ti, also you wont need to remove all your drivers and you can stay in your nvidia ecosystem, the performance between 6700 xt and 3060 ti is very minimal so just hop onto that

Ahh. yeah. if the performance difference for blender is as significant as it sounds between nvidia and AMD, ill probably opt for the 3060 Ti. Thanks

6700xt is rly gud imo (worth for its money) but its Ryzen, if u dont have a prob with ryzen gpus then go ahead

Fuck that nvidia guy. I'm thinking of buying a 6700XT because my 1650 super is crashing ~3-5 times per day, reboots the whole system (I've had the card for 3.5 years at this point). Because of their lasting abuse of the graphics card market, I gotta go Team Red for at least the near future. Plus, it's not like Ryzen is even that much worse compared to Nvidia. It's close enough that, if you want an ethical reasoning, you can go Ryzen to support a better ecosystem of cards. It's nerdy shit, but it's enough for me to edge off that extra performance you get from Nvidia still. Just from personal experience (probably the exception, not the rule) I can't trust Nvidia mechanical longevity.

honestly you should just upgrade your cpu since this is game is heavily cpu oriented and a 1060 should be able to run val fine on low

gaming = 3060ti
blender/rendering = 3060
both = 6700xt
