Bros, real talk from a drunk college student who was semi pro in hs. You guys gotta touch grass. Vlr is fun and shit, but make sure you do something productive. Doesn't have to be work or some shit, but life feels better when you can look back and see how you've improved. Pick up a language or instrument. Work part time. Exercise. Start small build your way up. And despite what you or other may think finding love doesn't count towards this. I've dated some incredible women and a couple men in my life and let me tell you. I may not regret it, I definitely could've done better with my life. I dated an actual model and felt so happy and overjoyed at the time, but 20 years from now I won't remember that all too well. What I'll remember from this time is how I performed at a concert, or played val competitively for my hs and won tourneys. Get the life achievements you desire. Because that's what's make you happy when you look back on your time. Not the YouTube videos. Not the shoes you bought. Not the dates you had. If you guys have any additional statements, say them below. Let's help the younger users avoid the pitfalls we fell into

Edit: if for whatever reason you feel alone a like life has no meaning, I feel you. Reach out to me on here or insta (amboreal) and I'll listen to whatever you have going on. Nobody deserves to feel isolated

So true, the best advice I was ever given is that whenever you feel nervous about whether someone wants to talk to you or text, that they're usually feeling the same way. If if they secretly hate you like you fear, who cares. They can go fuck themselves

I made sure I put my mental health first and foremost. I was severely bullied in hs for a large portion of it (I got into fist fights and shit on top of the verbal stuff) so I made sure I found ways to keep myself sane. Something that worked for me was to go running which helped a lot before I was hospitalized. My grades even improved slightly cuz I was in a better state of mind

as Ambo said, running is great, put 20 mins aside and just go on a little run. All the stress you felt from classes get swept away since you're dialed in on running. Mental reset and go for the next day.

Another thing that helped me was always sleeping on time. I set a time of 11pm every single day. No matter what I had to do, if I had homework the next day. I would go to sleep because that's what's important.

The only time I broke this rule was last week of school when I had to finish some art projects and I stayed up. But every day before that, focus solely on the work and one 11 hits stop everything and sleep. Sleeps important and it's something you should have some control over.

biggest lesson i learned was to just let people enjoy things and stop worrying about intentions
there's a lot of peace in enjoying the mundane shit

caring about things like optics and why people say what they say just feels increasingly pointless the older i get

also that no matter where you are in life you will eventually look back and think you were a dumbass so never assume you have things completely figured out

Nothing matters tbh. I just want to chill. In the end you gonna have to work to pay your bills. You’re too tired to do anything else after work. On your day off you just want to chill because you’re too drained to do anything else. I’ve accepted that this is my life and it feels better than coping it’s gonna get better. I’m just at work clocking in waiting to clock out and at the end of the day, a cold beer is waiting for me in the fridge. Is it bad? Maybe but it makes me feel better

I understand the sentiment friend, but it can get better and that's the hardest part. While there is nothing wrong with the life you presented, I believe it is only doing oneself justice to never stop attempting to do something new or different, even if the change is small like eating breakfast every day or going for a run once a week

I hope so too brother, I shall go to sleep now though. 2 girls messaged me so I think I'll be happy, but I will deal with whatever happens tomorrow. I have a workout, 2 hours of Korean practice, and my last vacation day to look foward to and then I'll respond to the messages and continue on from there. Vlr has been very supportive of me in the past so I hope to repay all that I've been given by those in the community. I hope your day is a beautiful as your treatment towards me

i want to mention something very profound in the Quran that could relate:

“Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity.” - chapter 2:286

"And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad)." chapter 53:29

Your message was very touching, and you've given some valuable advice. As a as a Muslim, I'd like to add some reflections from an Islamic perspective.

In the Quran, Allah SWT reminds us in Surah Al-Asr (103:1-3), "By time, Indeed, mankind is in loss, Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience."

So, in Islam, we're encouraged to improve ourselves not only in worldly matters but also in our faith and moral character. Whether we are learning a new skill, exercising, or being productive in our work, we should also aim to enhance our understanding of our Deen (religion), practice good manners (akhlaq), and increase our service to others (khidma).

You mentioned finding happiness in achievements, and this rings true in Islam as well. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, "The best of people are those that bring most benefit to the rest of mankind" . So, our achievements should also aim at benefiting others and serving our communities.

On the subject of loneliness and feelings of isolation, it's very kind of you to offer a listening ear. I echo your sentiments and also encourage those feeling this way to reach out to others for support. Remember that in our faith, we are never truly alone. Allah SWT says in the Quran in (2:186), "And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me..."

Your message reminded me of another hadith, The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:
"Take advantage of five before five:
your youth before your old age,
your health before your illness,
your riches before your poverty,
your free time before your work,
and your life before your death.”

This Hadith beautifully encapsulates the spirit of what you've said, brother. Just as you've pointed out, it's crucial to make use of our time and capabilities while we can.

Our youth is a time of energy and potential. We should harness this to not just learn and improve ourselves, but to contribute positively to the world around us. Health is a blessing that enables us to be productive, and wealth allows us to invest in beneficial ventures. Free time should be used to achieve beneficial goals and to grow as individuals, while remembering that life is a transient phase, a journey towards our final abode.
