if a team is up by a goal and have possession, can't they just keep passing to each other without trying to score since there isn't a shot clock like nba i assume
dont u think golden goal would be 10x better than penalty shootout
There's only so many sideways or backwards passes that a player can do, against a high pressing team, before putting their own teammates in trouble.
Many teams have tried to just 'keep the ball for the rest of the match' and almost all of them have failed.
I get you don't really play football
Golden Goal was a better rule maybe for the entertainment factor, but it was definitely less equitable. For the purpose of increasing competitive integrity, 30min + Penalty AET is a better model. (hence why it got switched from the golden goal rule back in the 90s)
In such a low scoring game where many different systems, formations and patterns are used to break down the oppositions defences adding in incentives to force even more long range low percentage shots by changing the scoring system would ruin the game. I think it would change the way the game is played but not as much as you would think
Not that I just think that the quality of goals should matter
a single penalty shot being worth the same amount as an insane long range strike is a little frustrating to me
my changes could be the exact same thing just 1, 0.5, and 0.25 and I wouldn't really care, I just didn't want to include decimals
Most possesion driven teams defend themselves by having possesion of the ball for as much time as possible, as it tires out opposition while also looking for gaps in the defence but all your players have to be world class in passing, in field vision and have nerves of steel when they have the ball otherwise its pretty easy to lose it against a good pressing.
