Reason why CS is more Hype

I was just scrolling through youtube and saw a bunch of comment sections shitting on valorant tournaments.

Majority of the Takes basically covered this:

  1. Valorant isnt hype as CS majors which is reflected by the viewership TILL DATE.
  2. The audience is and venues are sub par.
  3. CS is overall more enjoyable to watch.

These comment sections are huge ass echo chambers which shit on any opinion that the majority disagree with (Indirect Shot at VLR as well but we aren't that bad).

Now, I agree with all 3 points. But I still watch and play more Valorant than I do CS. Why?

I love watching things (Valorant in this case) blow up figuratively. None of these CS cucks realises that Valorant is barely 2 years old. You are comparing CS, which at this point is 10 years old with an immensely rich esport culture, history and tradition which created a plethora of memories, events and most importantly- an everlasting community which loves the game, so much so that they would consider the game as a family member they way the dickride each other and shit on any criticism towards the game. And when you have such a dedicated community, its almost impossible to not build up hype for events and important moments.

All I have to say is- Wait 5 years. In 5 years' time, Valorant will be almost at the level of LoL. Valorant will have a diehard fanbase behind each franchising team, well funded events, a good content creator community, a good pathway to pro league and most importantly- will have a faster growth rate due to the Countries and organisations being favourable towards the funding of esports now more than ever.

To all the lurking CS frogs: Shit on us all you want you peabrains. It literally motivates us to be more inclusive and improve the game and its community. Every time you call us mid, we strive to make sure our game will be on top one day.

Yet another "CS is 20 years older'" excuse.

Valorant is fully copied from other popular games - mix of CS, R6 and OW, it's got nothing new, it's just using ideas made by others, it's using the achievements of others for its own success.

CS is the father of FPS, the most basic and fundamental shooter esport there ever existed, the most recognizable one, the most respected one.

You may create as many pathetic copies as you want, but they won't overtake the father.

CS made FPS community. Valorant entered and immediately seized part of FPS community, mainly from NA and APAC. If CS wasn't so popular, neither would be Valorant. This game's alive literally only because of how CS developed the scene over 20 years.

Yea, I agree with olofboost as well on some of the points but the fact he's trying to rub this shit when it wasn't even asked is a PROPER definition of CSGO supremacist 💀

CS is not the father of FPS - this is plain wrong. Also, CS wasn't even the first shooter to have competition, there were Doom tournaments before CS even existed as a mod for Half Life. If Doom wasn't so popular, CS probably wouldn't even exist. What a bad argument to make

valorant esport is more hype, way better than CS literally in every region except EU-CIS & BR. CS is dead. it's not global esport anymore

#4

Massive W. Rome wasn’t built in a day, you can’t expect the esport to blossom from the start. Plus, if people are hating on valorant because they believe playing a more “realistic” makes you more of a man, then there’s something wrong with their head, and we shouldn’t take them seriously. CS is a one region game, whereas every region in val has a team worthy of challenging for international trophies, involving more regions can only be good in the long term

If they really want to play/watch realistic Tactical Shooter, they need to go play/watch 'Ready or Not' or 'Ground Branch' two great games and WAAAAY more realistic about tactical shooting. CS is not as realistic as this 2 games

Hadn’t seen these games before now, but they are so sick, THIS is realistic. As far as I’m concerned, CS is just as unrealistic as any other game

I really like to play Ground Branch (It is in Alpha yet, but the game is great so far), Ready or Not is already a released game and I really want to play it, but my PC isn't so powerful to run it at 60fps 😭

2 year old valorant vs 10 year old csgo argument is a huge cope lmao. There were multiple instances of a new tactical shooter game disrupting the market for a couple of years, only for it to fall into irrelevancy thereafter due to respective devs/business execs fucking something up along the way. Examples: cod4 promod/cod esports in general, pubg, fortnite, overwatch, even arguably R6 siege.

I would even dare to say that valorant and overwatch dev cultures are way too similar to the extent of valorant potentially repeating the feats of game breaking changes as overwatch did.

It literally motivates us to be more inclusive and improve the game and its community

kudos for the performative actvisim

It isnt a cope because you need time to build a community or a cult. You do not generate it overnight. And as far as everything is concerned, valorant is trending positively. And we are talking about a game Riot has built. Riot arguably knows its community well and listens to them compared to any other big game corp out there

#22
Glycoroldas

Frags

2 years is more than enough to generate a community or a cult, the bigger risk now is going through a fuck up that would turn your cult against you. A good example of that being blizzard-activision and world of warcraft/overwatch.

Riot has only demonstrated success through league of legends, valorant in my opinion is a completely different ballpark. Riot has been going through their own kotaku moments recently, which leads me to believe they are heading blizzard-activision route.

#32

However with it being a different ballpark, you can see that riot is actually listening to its communities. It had made some pretty big changes to its VCT 2023 format, and while its not perfect, it has given t2 and below alot more chancecs than games like CS have done. And in this 2 years valorant has already climbed to 1 of the top 5 most viewed esports ( pc ) , behind league, dota, csgo and nothing else iirc. Theres also already super big following across the world especially in Asia. Just look at Japan, the entire region is basically maining val on pc, from vtubers to casual gamers, its basically their most played pc game at this point. Look at SE Asia or India aswell, where valorant is massively developing and from personal experience AND recent content in the region, Valorant may have even overtaken the region for 1 of if not the most played pc games so far.

Yes they could fuck it up, but why think of so many what ifs when riot so far have done a fairly great job

nah yeah that's a reasonable take. Valorant suceeding is ultimately good for cs:go too, as Valve will have their hand forced in re-evaluating their strategy of having as minimal engagement as possible. Competition breeds better products and I do hope that valorant doesn't hit catastrophic roadblocks like overwatch did.

I'm all about both games actually developing as I see lots of differences on the gameplay side.

What I don't like is Riot doing a shit job at developing the game and structuring the esports scene. The only people killing this game, is Riot. There are people who will deny the fact Valorant is dying. There are people who will deny the fact it's Riots fault. The same people will shut their eyes and ears and scream "CSGO frog!!!!!!1!1!!11" to any sane person actually trying to fucking improve this esport with VALID criticism.

Just tells me who really cares about valo prospering.

We have shit on riot as a community multiple times. And they have brought changes respectively. The esports scene is gonna be bigger than ever with the new format. Idk if you have been following the scene but so far Riot is doing really good in making sure franchising and the T2 scene coexist while at the same time giving opportunities to normal players aswell.

#35

what do u consider is bad in their esport structure tho? Mind you they have been changing the structure every year so far in search of a better one, and VCT 2023 looks to be pretty promising. Dont get me wrong, there is a pretty big chance they messed something up next year, but it would be a miracle if they didn't cuz Val is a different genre with different following. And if your gonna complain about the game being closed and not open like CS, look at what happened to cs for a min. The game only exist in EU and when it comes to global presence, it is falling behind Valorant since Valorant have following from every region, with Asia growing rapidly

#36

Idk. The fact that it's going to take 6 months so that we can see a vct match is quite concerning.

Just off the top of my head.

Well they are sort of bringing the format of League of Legends to the game and in a sense, this does have some pros

Pros:

  • Esport teams do not have to spend as much on travel expenses. Like literally look at csgo with the amount of events it has, teams not from EU would have to spend crazy amounts just to continue competing
  • It gives each events a bigger symbol, more prestigious to win. CSGO have alot of events means theres alot of action, but the prestige and sort of status that comes with it is heavily diminished. Compare to league for example, you can most likely remember who won worlds for the past 2-3 years if u follow the scene. However in cs if i ask you who won the past 2-3 years in iem Katowice or Cologne, you might forget a few of them or mixed them up.
  • Its sorta in a sense making the scene more traditional, with having leagues and major tournaments, then capping it off at the end with an offseason. It also helps build following for teams as theres is more time for people to find a team they like and support since the focus will be on a few international events.
  • Lastly from pure hearsay so take this one with grain of salt, there is gonna be 3rd-party tournaments in the time between champions and regional league next year, which means ESL or other big tournaments hoster could host their events then

Cons:

  • Gotta wait a pretty long time to see action.
  • Less prize winning for teams and players, though this is compensated by their enormous salary
  • People might lose interest as they need to wait ( tho this is a fairly weak point cuz just look at LoL again )

LoL is a lot more frequent than current VCT. Let alone what they are preparing for 2023. Honestly, these 6 months will be the end of it. It seems to me that people don't recognize the differences between FPS and MOBAs. They are two different crowds and trying to appease the MOBA crowd in an FPS game will just result in OWL V2.

Personally I don't have that kind of patience just like many people. And it shows by the viewership rn. The last thing you'd want to do when your viewership is dying is halt the competition to a still for SIX months.

#48
Alovant
0

is it though? League have 2 big events, that is worlds and msi. And this 6 months while def theres a lack of events, i rather they have this 6 months first then jam pack it with too many events. You have to remember that the game is currently new in its structure, u cant compare it to CSGO cuz its two different things esport wise. Its like comparing an infant to a teenager, its just not a fair comparison.

( some points below here is also to tackle the points on your 2nd reply btw not all tho 0
Let say they do jampack it with events, many casual players are gonna get ticked off because they cant keep up, and are overwhelmed. Thats one of the few reasons why CSGO despite its popularity and being the only dominant game in FPS cant reach the height of League or Dota 2, and why theres only just that few teams in the game. It also calls for another issue, You may get bored and lose interest, but with this being the 2nd year of VCT where its still in its early baby phases, and next year hitting it off with leagues, it wont be as boring. The reason third party TOs havent joined yet is because Riot themselves are unsure where to place them. They havent set up the structure and im glad they havent. Imagine they did in the first two years, it will be a completely rushed mess where things could go horribly wrong. With how next year is gonna be like, you can expect Third party TOs to maybe joined the game ( If riot want to go down that route ).

#41
hekzy
1
Frags
+

I'd also like to add that all of this would've been avoided had Riot allowed for a healthier third party TO ecosystem. Again, Riot's fault.

Also, the fact that there is no competition between TOs (since riot are the only ones), this diminishes the quality of production. I have to say, that comparing Blast to VCT is like comparing gold to absolute dogshit piled garbage fill. It's been 2 years and we still don't have a working HUD! That's not just a joke, it's a travesty! The casters are also very subpar compared to ANY other eSport.

Not only that, but the fact that they've pretty much based their entire shtick to content creators costreaming the VCT events, and the fact that the viewership is super dependant on them (see Shroud left, -300k total viewers). That's not sustainable because another hype game is gonna come out and all those content creators will simply move on, as is the order of things.

#49
Alovant
0
Frags

I do agree with you on this point tho, Riot production quality is Horribly maintained and is a pretty big problem in and of itself. Casters why i would say give it time, the reason League or CSGO have great casters is because of their longevitiy. If theres 10 caster in an event rn and 1 is good, that 1 guy would be consistently put into events. Now repeat that every year and u got high quality casters around 10-20 due to how many get spots out. Valorant already have a few great casters, but they havent develop enough yet to stack each match with one.

Content creators costreaming the events is a double edge sword though
On one hand, they bring it massive views like shroud and Tarik, while on another they bring away some views aswell

I would Like to point out tho the reason why recent matches arent as hype is also due to the teams involved currenlty, the lost of Zeta and PRX basically killed all of Asia viewers, and while DRX is in, their fanbase is incomparable to the two behemoth in viewership.
