Good luck to anyone getting their AP scores! Having went through it I remember the stress before checking scores but just remember to stay calm and try to relax even if all your results aren't what you wanted. Unless it's senior year there will be other exams/classes that can at least semi make up so if things don't fully work out you just have to make sure to buckle down for next time!
i dont think u can compare them by pass rate lol, getting a 40+ out of 45 or even a 38 is much harder and rarer than getting 5s on an AP. And you cant compare a full fleshed curriculum to a course/exam. Both have their benefits and are great education ofc. Credit wise AP is slightly better in the USA for example
Not to mention you can choose not to submit your AP scores but your IB scores are compulsory thus many people not fully trying will attempt and give AP exams a try, thus potentially decreasing amount of high scorers
That sounds like something that could happen but in my experience it's pretty rare for people to not take the AP exam seriously, as it is 100 dollars cheaper to just not take the AP test
the amount of students not trying is not high enough to cause a 20-40% difference in graduation percentage
also a full fleshed curriculum is going to be more forgiving than a single course/exam, as there is significantly more time/material to make up for mistakes
yeah but I still dont get comparing using pass marks. Both AP and IB have lower standards for what is pass than credits. You can not get credits while passing the IB with the minimum required to pass 24 scores. Most UNIS require a 6 or a 7 in your HL. Similar to how most prestigious UNIS require a 4 or a 5 in your AP for the credit , with some exceptions of a 3.
And IMO , overall IB is more challenging since its a measure of something more than a single examination.
But sure for some subjects the AP might have harder topics than the IB counterpart and vice versa if you want to talk by pure technical difficulty
depends on which course, but in general because AP has more specific courses it also has more difficult courses to choose from. for example, Calc BC has more "advanced" content than that which would be explored in the calculus section of Math AA HL.
the difficulty with the IB comes with having to submit a project-type thing for every subject that accounts for 20-40% of the grade along with other requirements (the extended essay and tok essay).
