valorant viewership is better than u think

i was thinking about this for the past month. whenever i watch cs games so much of the chat is filled with gamblers. i talked to some guy in chat who said it might be annoying but gamblers keep the viewers high. i saw a video about cs gambling too which made the same points that tournaments bend the knee to gambling sites for their viewers which seems true since they always have ads for gambling/trading sites on them.

valorant gets laughed at a lot for not having higher peaks than cs but isnt cs being inflated a lot by this gambling culture? im not rly impressed by a game having more viewers if a lot of them are only watching for their bets. for valorant to get even close to cs numbers just from pure entertainment is pretty good.

valorant apparently also stomps cs in just general streaming watchtime which would imply people are less interested in casually watching cs.

kinda makes me respect riot more for avoiding having a cs-like marketplace for valorant. maybe this is what they were thinking about.

yeah,
I also think the reasoning for the high viewership is just cause how global it is
all regions are extremely competitive at internationals
theres support and viewers from so many countries
where as cs biggest fans are in eu ahahaha

the gambling part only applies to tier 2-3,and valorant has stomped cs in average streaming viewership like every other mainstream fps ever,cs has never in its history been a mainstream game in that aspect, without tournaments many games are watched more in twitch than cs

but even a tier-1 organizer like eslcs promotes gambling and has gamblers active in their chats. i caught a segment a few days ago where the casters were even gambling during the half-time.

you could maybe debate the % of viewers watching because of bets vs people just watching for the entertainment i guess. but theres definitely a bump from gambling, think its hard to dispute that. the point really is just that valorants viewership isnt as bad as people make it out to be when you take it into context that valorant doesnt promote or try to involve themselves in that side of esports.

the amount of t1 games that cs stream in comparison to valorant could be the reason too .. higher the supply lower is peoples interest and vice versa

100%
and just due to the open bracket nature of a lot of tourneys theres a looooot of boring games
the interesting numbers are always the averages and theyll be brought down by stuff like that

yea but its not a big part of tier 1 cs,the bump is probably the smaller than tarik not watch partying,ur also forgetting that a big part of valorant esports wievership comes from the mainstream streamers promoting the esport

Gambling degens mostly only really applies to tier 2/3 tournaments. Most people dont care about those tournaments. So I think you are really exaggerating and blowing it out of proportion.

i just feel like if cs blocked gambling tomorrow (even just skin-gambling and left regular betting) we would see a fair hit in cs viewership (including tier-1) and val wouldnt look as far behind as people suggest.

I think it would take a financial hit, but for viewership itself i really dont think tier1 would be affected that much

wasn't there a controversy between betting sites that resulted in people breaking the trophy of the last major?

Plus there are so many 3rd party TOs for CS as Valve only handles the Major system. It is not very centralized, so people can tune in to so many events

valve games are better competitively (dota 2, cs are far better "esports"), but riot games are more fun for the average player like me and you. how that translates into viewership is down to your interpretation.

valorant and league are more fun since theres more bullshit, which increases game variance, lowers skill ceiling and makes them less competitive at the highest level.

we are talking about viewership not sponsoring, gambling is becoming a pretty big sponsor in regular sports too,the biggest sponsor in football is probably gambling too rn

This felt like a cope, goodwill won't bring you anywhere, I dont even think people give a shit about whether riot has betting site as sponsors unless someone brings it up, even so no one really cares and the topic will die down in weeks if not days.

tbh riot has drops, it goes both ways (NOT SAYING DROPS==GAMBLING, just that 'casual' viewers are in both games, for cs its gamblers, for valo its drops)

idk man i think it also has to do with the better casters, better production, better HUDs, better level of play, better competition, better players, better teams, better talent, better analysts, better maps, better playerbase, better community and last but not least better game
