Is it weird that I expect tier 1 coaches to be able to hit radiant or at the very least 300rr. I understand that ranked play and official vct matches would be different but if my coach couldnt play high elo ranked what right do they have to coach. Coaches can work around game theory all they want but they need to at least put time into the game at a high level.

coaches don't play ranked in their off time, they watch VODS of other teams (Termi and Alecks) as seen in the pacific coach video. Astel even say " I was a former player before becoming coach, I can get radiant easy If I have the time".

Im not saying they should spend all their time playing the game when in the coach position but have put in a good amount of time in the game prehire. Coaches have just been picked up straightaway from other games experience like Chet who transferred from cs with like 30 hrs val game time

Chet has a masters so that argument makes no sense and you can look at other sports like soccer with jurgen klopp who never played professionally and still has a champions league and premier league and j like many football coaches too j because he isn't 6'10 and ways 300lbs doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to coach and same for val j because a coach doesn't have the mechanical skills doesn't mean he doesn't understand how the game works

klopp did very much play professionally for a pretty long time lol

though if you want an example of a decent enough coach who didnt play pro i believe Nagelsmann didn't, or maybe he did, but he retired aged 20 regardless

There are players who are not hitting radiant for acts, and you want coaches to abandon vod reviewing, strategizing and actually coaching just to practice something they do not need to be good at.

he didn't play professionally ever he did play and if I'm wrong mb but he was never a top level player and accomplished nothing at top level as a player so the argument still stands
