TenZ & Chronicle stand as the only two players in VCT history with 2 Masters titles. 15 DIFFERENT players have 1 champions. How the hell is 1 champions = 2 masters??

FNC has left the chat

huh? FNC don't have 2 masters. Only SEN has 2 masters in VCT history and TenZ was part of both of them

according to riot, Lock\in was "a masters level tournament" and "a replacement for a masters event"
i don't agree with it, but its what riot says

#17
kalmia

Frags

didn't have the same format though. masters has double elim and groups, lock//in was single elimination which (arguably) was harder, but could be argued that it was easier since any good teams wouldn't have a chance after a single loss

#18

A lock in isn't a masters, its a lock in, or else it would be called a masters. Lock in was a one time event for franchising where there were zero qualifiers unlike a masters or champs. If you said FNC has 2 VCT trophies that would make more sense.

#25

riot literally said that it was a "a masters level tournament" and "a replacement for a masters event"

Masters level ≠ masters event, they are clearly saying the prestige and coverage would be masters equivalent, lock in had no similarity to masters in branding either

#33

Who tf cares about branding? lol. competition is the only thing that matters and lock in had the same amount of competition as any masters or champs has it

#51

Respectfully, it really didnt. First off, it was a single-elim. Look at the majority of masters and champs events, most of them including the previous two masters and champions had winners from the lower bracket. Get a lucky first few matchups and you’re on your way to the final. Second off, it was the first event of the year, these rosters are not gonna be close to the quality of teams after a full split / year

#54
Er3ngenes1s

even madrid was the first event of the year too, does that mean it is also not counted as one? 😂 there are so many flaws jus like this one in ur statement. retrospect ur own thought process buddy 😂

#29

Lock in winners do not get absolutely any advantage for next tournament. Tourney is not seeded, there’s no double elim, this is literally mosts teams first official GAME together, you didn't even need to qualify to play in the event. This literally goes against everything a masters is. Lock in was a one time event to introduce franchising.

All yapperinos, if Riot says it then thats it. No debate.

Masters level ≠ masters event. They are called different things for a reason riot never said it was a masters event. It was a one time thing to introduce franchising.

they literally did in their vct 23 teaser vid. also, u think anyone cares about the name of an event? lol. what everyone cares about is the competition and the it is the same in every tournament

#49

first you have to fight in your own region to qualify for masters while in lock in it wasn't this case riot just gave every team a slot therefore it doesn't count as masters so Masters > Lock in.

Are you talking about achievements? Chronicle has the most achievements in VCT history

#22

doesn't matter, sacy is a champions + masters winner.

At the end every player want to win the CHAMPIONS. ask chronicle if he wants to win 3 masters or 1 champs

#23

Nah its pretty well known chronicle is the most achieved player in VCT history

Chronicle carried his team to win and sacy was dead weight that got carried in madrid

because its the biggest tournament of the year???

do you celebrate cs minor winners or league msi winners?

besides a lot of teams treat everything else as prep for champs

You probably think EG was the best team in the world last year, not FNC. Am I correct?

1st Masters: Warm up, new teams, new rosters, new/change meta, practice tournament, usually some rookies do well
2nd Masters: Some rookies/teams exposed. Deserve respect, great team International winners
Champions: Champions of the YEAR, best players of the year included

This is quite accurate.

if you don't win champions your year was a failure, even FNC winning 2 tournaments was a failure bc they didn't win champs. its the ultimate goal.

I think winning masters twice is more impressive than winning champs once so like 1.5x

#42
Kirya
2
Frags

1.3 in general because winning masters is almost as impressive as winning champions but might change depending on conditions
For example id give iceland 2022 a 3x of champs because fpx didnt attend and fnatic had a sub

#44

realistically there’s no difference between a champs and masters event

#47

There is a big difference. The money that EG get from champs was two times bigger than Fnatic get from Lock in and master Tokyo combined.

masters 2 - mickey mouse
champions - mickey mouse

Difficulty wise there is zero difference. Still against the best teams in the world, still all of them trying their absolute hardest. You could even argue masters is harder since a team can be amazing at the start of the year and rack up lots of points but then fall off hard at the end of the year when champs rolls around with all the different meta shifts. These teams will qualify but will be worse than the teams that had a slow start but peaked later in the year who just missed the points needed. Masters you are against the best teams in the world at that point in time and there is zero fall off.

Valorant has been around for a short time, but the more time passes the less value Masters will have. Eventually champions will be what matter

Every team has a chance of making both. Both are international LANs. The difference is in the marketing Riot does and the prize pool. To me, there is no difference, because both are same difficulty.
