ASE isn't actually that bad

I don't think it's fair to say the Chinese teams are horrible.

In fact, I don't think they've ever been as bad as people make them out to be:

-Last year EDG almost 2-0d Paper Rex at a time when people considered them the 2nd best team in the world.
-Both EDG and ASE consistently scrim franchised APAC teams.
-Even though EDG lost to 100T at lock-in, 100T was looking stronger back then (beat FUT, which ironically enough is competing this time around as EMEA #3 seed).

This is not to say that I think 100T is better than FUT right now (No, FUT has 100% improved tremendously since Lock-In) But that's exactly why I don't think it's fair to dismiss ASE and especially EDG based on their past performances when they've had an equal window of opportunity to improve themselves.

It's a common argument to say that their region is uncompetitive, but if you really think about it: the fact that FGC is a separate league from APAC means that teams like DRX and T1 can scrim against them without holding back any strats--at least until now (they're definitely a great scrim partner given that APAC's challengers scene isn't as developed as EMEA's or NA's).

T1's coach Autumn has even said some really good things about ASE specifically, like how "When Life is activated, ASE are unstoppable" in their scrims.

I genuinely predict that either EDG or ASE are going to make a deeper run at Tokyo than many of you realize, they're going to pull an upset or two and you'll feel the same way you did when you underrated Cloud9.

But what happened to Cloud9😐

they replaced the guy regarded as the best player in the world and their IGL and signed two completely unknown tier 3 players, so everyone expected them to go 0-9 in groups. Nobody expected them to absolutely rawdog every team in the Americas besides for the top 3

EG just better cloud9 still good + new players are inclined to suffer in high pressure situations. Also i think its better for them to learn to lose now than to learn to lose in tokyo like the guard did.

EG also surprised everyone, they retained the majority of their losing roster from last year, but with one or two adjustments and a shit ton of practice they managed to become a top 3 team

If they make a run in lcq they will do good in champs. If they won one game to qual to tokyo and went straight there they would have shat the bed.

i learned from EG this year that you never count out the underdogs. idk if either ASE or EDG will make it out of groups, but i expect them to fight hard and maybe surprise with a win

Totally agree, ty for this post brotha. The nerves are definetely a huge factor for EDG's losses, they were not far off from beating all of PRX, 100T, and T1 today. Everytime it goes to OT they lose too, hoping they work on their post plants though.

I agree although I don't see EDG beating NRG/NAVI and ASE beating FUT (I could kinda see this but again it's very unlikely) , so I don't think they won't make any deep runs tbh.

No I 100% believe ASE will beat FUT. FUT is less structured and ASE thrives on chaos.

They already made it a close match against DRX, and FUT is significantly worse in almost every way besides their star duelist and different strats.

If EG win against DRX, then I can see them making them doing better the second time around, but unlikely as DRX is really good at holding onto control.

However, if DRX beat EG, then I think ASE will win against EG in lowers. EG is a heavy counter-strat team and if Life diffs Demon1, then their sheer chaos and firepower will bring out the rookies in EG.

Assuming EG loses to DRX, which is the likely outcome, then I predict ASE going to playoffs

why would that matter, he was tier 2 after all? Challengers before 2023 was Tier 1

because challengers is tier 2, if he couldn't qualify to challengers then he was tier 3. whether or not challengers used to be tier 1 in the past is completely irrelevant to his status and the status of challengers at the time of his signing.
