Basically college level courses that you take in high school. They are a pretty big deal in the US bc good AP scores help you get into colleges. There are AP courses for a ton of topics from english to calculus to computer science and more.

5 on physics 1 is actually really impressive, and tbh, more impressive than getting a 4 or 5 on C mechanics just because of how difficult the Physics 1 Test is and how bad the curve is.

Yeah but i have to take a certain amount of classes for each subject to graduate. AP count towards these classes

The curve I meant was the minimum score necessary to get a 5 (for calc bc its like a 60/108).

And on that note, Physics C was a basic application of calculus into physics 1 material, it wasn't really difficult but rather straightforward. Physics 1 material isn't difficult, but the test was just absurdly difficult for no reason.
