Therefore BGG > Brazil

actual monkey logic. I agree it was a competitive tournament, but the whole Vivo Keyd copium is a jarate; best left unopened.

Scream will scream, link will delink, soulcas will soulpass, Jamppi will Jampp off building, sliggy will slither away.

all it takes is another twitlonger mentioning the audio.

A large part of the community couldn't care less. I don't mean this in a disparaging manner, but I feel that is really the case. Then, there are likely more people who are fans of Sinatraa, compared to those who dislike him.

However, the second a tweet, clip, etc. goes viral, all the people who were unconcerned will also voice their dislike. All those, and even people who don't play or even watch the game. It's a risk Riot is likely unwilling to take, especially with the still recent fuckfest that occurred in the Smash scene, Blizzard rn, and other games.

Even a little restraint and he'd still be competing. It's extremely unfortunate this event occurred.

Patiphan will win every accolade he possibly can in the OWL league, then use the money to pay the Sushi Boys, who will infiltrate Blizzard HQ and delete the game files of OW2. Then, the OWL will die and he will be shifted over to the Valorant team.

This way, he will get all the money, compete, and still be a Valorant player. Compared to his genius, we all might as well be monkeys.

I totally missed that. Still , I kind of disagree that the teams themselves are hyper-fixated on individuals. Fans definitely are, and the orgs surely are, too. As a result, most new players aim to be like those players which I think is the biggest problem.

I don't think NA teams are at a point where their whole strategy revolves around a single player, which is why most of the NA teams at this event managed close games even during underperformance by their star players. They play as a team for the most part, but at some points depend heavily on those singular players.

However, they definitely were going in that direction. After TenZ's and Yay's incredible performances, it did feel like more teams started to rely on single players. Exhibit A: C9 and leaf. C9 under Vanity surely had the potential to develop a more team-based strategy, like their V1 run in Rejkyavik, but chose instead to rely on leaf performing. After this defeat, I think (and hope) they rethink this and go back to the pre-Iceland strategy, which I felt was more team-oriented.

My main point is, it's not so much cultural as it is a consequence of previous events.

EDIT: I totally agree about the money situation. Even players in less developed regions (BR, LATAM, SEA) seem to care more about winning than securing a source of income. However, I can't blame the players for choosing to value well-being over performance in good faith, since it's a very personal thing.

posted about 3 years ago

EMEA had won 8 more rounds than NA teams this event. That's lower than Berlin and Iceland. It's very difficult to say they "fell off" when the NA teams didn't get stomped, but it's undeniable that they did lose.

Failing to achieve expectations =/= falling off.

It's definitely a failure, though. The path back to dignity for NA is surely rough, but they've not fallen so far from grace as to be called bad at Valorant.

this message wasn't in response to yours, it was just making fun of the four back-to-back long comments in this thread! It's natural that there's similarity between the responses since there aren't exactly many unique problems of NA teams.

I disagree that individualism is an inherently bad thing. I also don't think it's necessarily as present in NA as it's made out to be; C9, Sentinels, and even Envy's players have shown a lot of selflessness in-game. If you're referring to the jett mains, I can understand. However, even the top teams in Champions right now have star players who are set up for success - CNed, scream, Keznit. It's not really super bad to focus around one player, so long as they listen.

When it comes to money, I can agree. However, it's kind of difficult to ask players in such a volatile environment to not care about their well-being. For most, being an esports player is only possible if they're able to make as much, if not more than they would work a 9-5. Securing a source of income is necessary to even think about competing.

I think these points do have merit, though. NA organizations seem to care more about money and views than the competition, just look at TSM. Players seem prone to underestimating other teams and are generally more openly egotistic than those of other regions. The work ethic doesn't seem nearly as driven as other regions, too.

Individualism has thrown a massive wrench into the works of the NA scene, too. Good IGLs feel like an endangered species, and not many up-and-coming players seem to want that role, preferring to become duelists instead. A similar, but not as desperate situation exists in the smoke and support roles, too.

t-minus 9 hours to the first semifinal match, and it's still impossible to buy tickets. No crowd, most likely.

Seems more like the website forgot to remove the ticket section for this event.

true. CSGO is an amazing game. It turns boys into men. It turns girls into men. It turns geniuses into mindless husks. It builds and shits out the best talent the esports industry has seen, like GODAZED, Brax, and AZK, who are now the best Valorant players in the game!

Yeah, that makes sense. I think that strategy is not ideal, though. It's much easier to become experienced than it is to become talented.

A good CR roster would be

Neth
Munchkin
Art (solely off stats, for the sentinel role)
Barce (smokes)

+1 new player on Skye/Kayo/Breach

I think the communication barrier is truly problematic. I also think it's foolish to indirectly invest in Korean players rather than building Japanese talent. With the player base and support, it's only a matter of time before new, amazing players begin emerging, and it's on the Japanese teams to find them as fast as possible and to make it as easy as possible for them to compete.

Munchkin and Neth are great players. I can't say the same for the rest of the team, though. IMO, they should use this offseason to pick up newer, Japanese players. With the longer challengers events announced, it should be possible to improve them greatly in time for the next LAN event.

Of course, that would imply that they beat Zeta who is also building a pretty great team. I personally don't know if this is possible, but it would be much better than just showing up and getting shitstomped again.

Not a fan of the ec1s move. Not a fan of imports in general. It just feels like a massive fuck you by 100T, who've constantly ignored home talent to favor those of other games with big names, or other regions. In NA alone, I feel that there must be better igls. jcstani, Dephh, and a few others come to mind.

I don't really understand the decision not to play Seven on the main roster. He's super talented and may have the potential to improve even more in the future. I assume it's because Ethan and Hiko are more comfortable playing with Brehze, who's also very good.

I still feel Asuna is the best part of this team. ec1s' IGL does not particularly excite me.

posted about 3 years ago

Eh, while it may feel like a stupid move in hindsight they likely were looking for a drastic change in play after Masters 3. Changing the IGL would be the best way to do so, however, that's easier said than done - given the lack of good free agent igls, and the very short time they had to adjust.

It's at the very least, understandable.

posted about 3 years ago

I honestly don't think he's wrong. Vanity and Steel are both great IGLs who've proven themselves to some extent on the international stage.

However, they aren't even in the same league when it comes to round to round impact. Shahz is absolutely insane at getting big frags at great times, cleaning out rounds, and even clutching.

He's just an insane all-around player tbh.

posted about 3 years ago

Is Oderus an IGL? I thought it was Zellsis doing that.

posted about 3 years ago

jcstani is an extremely underrated player IMO. guy has incredible talent, should really playing with a big org like 100T, FaZe, or TSM. I would say NRG, too, but that team seems to refuse structure.

posted about 3 years ago

Feel free to add those not on this list currently. I want to know who the NA igls are, and who's good.

My list:

-Shahzam
-Vanity
-Steel
-FNS
-Poised
-jcstani
-Dephh
-gmd
-Poach

NA seems to have a massive lack of IGL players. It forces teams to choose between the same few players, who usually have severe faults that have existed for extended periods of time.
If you're looking at IGLs who have impactful rounds, that reduces the already tiny list greatly. Shahz, jcstani, and Vanity, are the only three IGLs I think get consistent impact in rounds.

posted about 3 years ago

This is the dream team for Brazil. The best duelists, the best igl, and great supports. Their performance next year is tantamount to Brazil's best possible. They ended 2021 with a much-improved performance compared to Masters 2, or 3. With IMO the best possible roster, will they be able to improve even further?

2022 is the real test for Brazil as a region.
