I assume it's to make the group stage more exciting. As less teams qualify, more teams have important matches towards the end of the season. In NA, for example, matches like 100T-EG, C9-Guard, Sen-V1, etc. don't really have anything but prestige and seeding on the line.

So they had 6 teams qual instead. idk if it would be feasible, but they could've started the bottom seeds of each group in the lower bracket to make more matches matter.

yeah. after the upper semis and lower round 2 all the matches are for seeding.

The tiebreaker is the outcome of the match the two tied teams played against each other, I think. so, if G2 were 3-2 and Acend were also 3-2, the Acend vs G2 match (already played) would be used making Acend advance.

Acend beat G2 so they'd win the tiebreaker. (assuming they beat BBL).

Yeah, uncommon matchups are great. I want to see more SA vs APAC specifically, the playstyles are very distinct.

24 teams with play-ins is ideal, IMO. Maybe they chose not to increase participation going into 2022 due to covid STILL existing, but hopefully that changes in the future.
