They start off almost every map with some abysmal 0-5 or 1-7 start
If a GC team is handed a free spot and they perform poorly (which they most likely will do relative to the other teams and end up at the bottom of the table) you're just going to have more complaints and division from the community regarding female teams and whether or not they can compete at the top. Peak C9 GC would get completely rolled by tier 2 and 3 unsalaried teams. It makes the most sense to have everyone progress through the ascension system and prove themselves there, it's better for everyone.

There's still plenty of teams signed to major orgs out of franchising. The bottom 2 teams (which can be teams like argh argh q, ge, talon, dfm) could still be relegated out with teams like damwon, bleed, boom for example.
