shao, suygetsu, redgar, nats, something, and chronicle are all russian citizens, demon1 is a US citizen. so that's how the process was faster for demon1

and I don't think something ever played on LAN in japan, I think he was playing from vlaivostok (eastern Russia). EDIT: incorrect

the process for the above mentioned russian players probably took just as long, but since they were signed during the off-season they had a lot more time to get their paperwork taken care of.

Something was barely signed in late march, so there's really only 3 months of leeway for him

Welcome to the world of immigration beauracracy, this shit usually takes months. Once a work visa expires or you lose the work that you justified under that visa, the only thing that becomes easier is your odds of getting another visa accepted again in the future (it can be rejected), but it will still take just as long.

well I can't speak for team heretics, but I think it's fair to assume no pro player would openly admit that they had a lot of conflicts with their old teammates, it's career suicide

EG also surprised everyone, they retained the majority of their losing roster from last year, but with one or two adjustments and a shit ton of practice they managed to become a top 3 team

posted about 2 years ago

they replaced the guy regarded as the best player in the world and their IGL and signed two completely unknown tier 3 players, so everyone expected them to go 0-9 in groups. Nobody expected them to absolutely rawdog every team in the Americas besides for the top 3

I don't think it's fair to say the Chinese teams are horrible.

In fact, I don't think they've ever been as bad as people make them out to be:

-Last year EDG almost 2-0d Paper Rex at a time when people considered them the 2nd best team in the world.
-Both EDG and ASE consistently scrim franchised APAC teams.
-Even though EDG lost to 100T at lock-in, 100T was looking stronger back then (beat FUT, which ironically enough is competing this time around as EMEA #3 seed).

This is not to say that I think 100T is better than FUT right now (No, FUT has 100% improved tremendously since Lock-In) But that's exactly why I don't think it's fair to dismiss ASE and especially EDG based on their past performances when they've had an equal window of opportunity to improve themselves.

It's a common argument to say that their region is uncompetitive, but if you really think about it: the fact that FGC is a separate league from APAC means that teams like DRX and T1 can scrim against them without holding back any strats--at least until now (they're definitely a great scrim partner given that APAC's challengers scene isn't as developed as EMEA's or NA's).

T1's coach Autumn has even said some really good things about ASE specifically, like how "When Life is activated, ASE are unstoppable" in their scrims.

I genuinely predict that either EDG or ASE are going to make a deeper run at Tokyo than many of you realize, they're going to pull an upset or two and you'll feel the same way you did when you underrated Cloud9.

every situation requires an appopriate aiming style. If you're flicking to someone, try to flick a head tap and strafe once before comitting to a 3 bullet spray to their head.

You should always be able to hit headshots but don't be so hard on yourself if you punish people with bodyshots

again, my issue is with his branding, not the actual impact of his wealth.

The guy bought a mansion in HOLLYWOOD dude, he could've bought a house anywhere but he buys a mansion in fucking Hollywood.

If only we lived in an ideal world where hasan wasn't forced to hoarde all the excess wealth he has

posted about 2 years ago

I don't want to get into actual politics but my honest answer is you should never have more wealth than is required for you to retire and live the rest of your life comfortably.

For Hasan's case, I don't care that he's rich, I care about the way he presents his wealth. It's the way he brands himselfs then contradicts that same image he's trying to push by being your typical wasteful LA multi-millionaire streamer, that's what annoys me about him. That's what makes me think he doesn't really care about what he's saying at all, because if he did he'd at least put even a little effort into at least appearing (note, I said appearing not actually doing) like he lives a more modest life, and that's what cements him as a grifter in my mind

posted about 2 years ago

Ah yes just as proudhon said "if you want to win an argument, just take whatever the other guy said and strawman a version of it taken to the absolute extreme"

I'm not saying he should be begging for scraps like diogenes dude; he can live a comfortable life. I'm saying he shouldn't be flaunting his wealth and buying a fucking palace for himself while complaining about how wasteful capitalism is.

If his only worth is to be an entry way into leftist politics then I feel bad for whoever mightve been interested in learning more, saw this rich boy being a walking contradiction and got turned away.

What's more, I feel bad for the hundreds of people that began following the genocide-supporting infrared after Hasan gave him a platform--despite Infrared making an absolute mockery out of himself

posted about 2 years ago

If you care about your brand as an ally of those same working people who, for the most part, are forced to pay rent every month for a roof over their head that they do not own, and who advocates strongly against rich landowners, the 1%

Then I don't think you should flaunt your wealth as if you were part of the 1%

posted about 2 years ago

Not buying a 5 million dollar house for starters; I mean c'mon just buy a normal middle class house and people would understand.

you can buy a mansion for a 800k in some places, the guy actually bought himself a fucking palace

posted about 2 years ago

Whataboutism at its finest, if you were debating hassan he'd call you out on that you know

posted about 2 years ago

"Talk about Socialism all day without doing a thing to help the cause; also live the most wasteful. gluttonous, and slothful lifestyle imaginable while doing so, that is how we will overcome class struggles--leave any actual political change that would affect you off to some arbitrary future" - Karl Marx, probably

The only argument you can make about Hasanabi is that he helps spread ideas of leftism by making them more mainstream.

But if that's really the case, then his image should be part of that. If your main mechanism for bringing change onto society is having a large audience to educate, then why should anyone trust someone who does not practice even a hint of moderation in his wealthy life to talk about how the poor are suffering? It only hurts his credibility when talking about left-wing politics, the only thing he's actually useful for

posted about 2 years ago

Technically true, but I really don't want to hear about leftism from someone who very clearly doesn't believe what he's spouting.

How can someone so openly call out the 1% who drown in wealth while working people suffer to put food on the table while living such a slothful, gluttonous lifestyle?

It's like if Something started complaining about a player overpeeking. Yes, he could be right, but if he himself overpeeks more than anyone else in the game then why should I like him as a person, or trust that his words are coming out of actual gamesense and not just frustration?

In the case of Hasanabi why should I genuinely believe that he is going to do anything at all to help working people other than tell people pretty words and profit off their donations? If anything all he's done is give platforms to insanely problematic personalities in the political side of the internet like infrared, because no matter if they get dogged on in a debate, the sheer amount of views this guy gets means even if only a small percentage of them agree with the lunatic on the microphone, that lunatic will still gain a large following.

He is the textbook definition of a grifter, commercializing politics for his gain and nobody elses
