personally breeze was ruined by riot deciding to reopen hall again. when it was closed i actually enjoyed it quite a bit

posted about a year ago

I agree but I raise you this: no one will ever willingly play Breeze again. Or Sunset. Or Split.

The maps in Valorant are kinda bad at the moment ngl. Most maps have something wrong with them. Adding a pick system would suck because everyone will just play Haven (or whichever map is the most popular).

I'll be very happy if and when they fix the maps before they add any sort of system like that

i wish that correlation were true but unfortunately not. i got my DL in texas and had to parallel park, and drivers there are shit!

posted about a year ago

if you're in a place that has parallel parking as a section, make sure you have that down 100%. in some places i've been to they auto-fail you if you mess that up (because it's very easy to wreck three cars -- yours and the two others -- for a wrong entry/exit).

otherwise, just don't be stupid

GenG did extremely well and I'm honestly super happy for them despite rooting against them during the match. All I hope is that they maintain that level of consistency during the rest of the season. It'd crush my heart to see a complete collapse like the old GenG had last season during league play

you're really cringe for bumping your own thread twice like that

this isn't really a riot-only thing tho. a lot of other sports do this because of sponsors

posted about a year ago

Fair, didn't notice that. Still really bad visually -- because CR was in Challengers while DFM was in VCT, their match history just overlaps completely, which makes no sense without that context

https://www.vlr.gg/team/matches/278/detonation-focusme/?group=completed

Was looking at DFM's page to count how many matches they've played since franchising began (fun fact: counting Lock-In, 2023 LCQ, and Kick-Off, they are 0-13), but I noticed that the match history is also showing Crazy Raccoon's history? They're two completely different teams so it's not a case where like a team changed names... has this occurred on any other page? Is it just me?

This is an invitation to discussion and not me just preaching. Also, allat warning

The past couple of seasons we've seen teams have their perma-picks and their perma-bans. But, certain teams seem to be leaning against having these picks and instead focus on either counter-banning or having multiple strong maps that they would not miss if they were banned. I only have SEN as a notable example, but I'd love to see if anyone can find similar scenarios in the other regions.

I know LOUD vs SEN isn't over (as of me writing this it is 2-0 SEN on maps and 8-10 LOUD on Icebox, I will edit this after), but SEN vs NRG also shows what I mean -- SEN is strong on plenty of maps. Split is the obvious example, but they also have had incredibly strong matches on Sunset and Lotus during the few matches they were picked. They do have a permaban in Icebox, and this current match is the first time they're playing on it because they did not ban it (this will be important later). But, why weren't these strong maps (especially Split) banned in their matches instantly?

Because the other teams (in this case NRG and LOUD) are more worried about their bad maps than SEN's good ones. NRG's permabans this tourney were Bind and Icebox -- they banned them every match. But, because SEN banned Icebox, they weren't sure what to ban after. They didn't ban Split even though SEN has been notably strong there, and they didn't ban Lotus where SEN had a strong performance. I do think NRG were in a catch 22 during this ban pick. They wanted Bind and Icebox gone so badly and they probably weren't comfy with the lack of info they had for Lotus that they were willing to let Split through. That was obviously a mistake.

Similarly with LOUD. Breeze is LOUD's permaban -- they banned it every match including the one they're currently playing. But that meant Split was a free pick for SEN because it was BO5. Meanwhile, SEN banned Ascent instead, not Icebox. So LOUD's strongest map was out of the series, and SEN's strongest was in. And even if SEN loses on Icebox, their permaban... they're putting up a fight!

So what does this imply? That permabans are potentially becoming a major weakness, because now teams are adapting and are diversifying their map pool to read into the permabans and potentially antistrat the other team. NRG let Split through because they really wanted Bind gone and got 13-3d. LOUD let Split through because they wanted Breeze gone and got 13-3d, and they also don't get Ascent. SEN, meanwhile, has played on every map in the map pool this tourney at least once (once this Icebox game finishes). Not as strong a point, because SEN has also played the most matches. But, still an interesting point.

What do you all think?

posted about a year ago

I was thinking just that. They might've been thrown for a loop when SEN picked one of the other maps leaving both Lotus AND Split open, but I'm not sure.

honestly, i'm fine with that. good change of pace.

BEST OF THE BEST:

  • Pearl (rito bring this one back)
  • Haven (rito bring this one back)

Good, enjoyable maps:

  • Split (no real complaints. a bit choke-y but never really boring)
  • Lotus (also no real complaints, but does anyone else feels like they get this map too much?)
  • Breeze (I really liked the changes to the map. Big big upgrade from before it was taken out)
  • Fracture (should come back soon)

Could use some tweaks:

  • Bind (the map isn't horrible but I still think there should be some tweaks for hookah)
  • Icebox (even after an entire B-site rework it's still just A-take simulator)
  • Sunset (i'm convinced it's not enjoyable unless you're in VCT. something should really be changed, probably with mid)

Please get this map out of the game:

  • Ascent (it's not fun to play at all, but it's rito's favorite child so they're probably gonna remove Split again before taking this one out)

also remember this is my opinion and other opinions are welcome <3

pearl made double wall actually feel fun

fracture, pearl, and haven all gave either fun games or fun pro matches. and all three of them are out of rotation. but ascent is riot's favorite child

Derrek I agree. I firmly believe 100T just threw him under the bus each time. Apoth I haven't seen enough, and I was never really sold on supamen or nature back when I was a huge Challengers watcher. We'll see if Potter can whip them into shape even more because even though it was a meme reply, they still almost qualified

i have liked what i've seen from them a LOT but i'm also worried it's just a heater and the moment they drop a map/series then they immediately crash out.

as an example of what i mean, MxM looked unstoppable during the latter half of NA Challengers, then they lost 0-2 and 0-3 to crash out of the entire thing after going 2-0 2-0 in the bracket

Unrelated to VCT

I usually give maps the benefit of the doubt. I was a rare Fracture enjoyer when it was released even though everyone hated it. Same with Pearl and Lotus, but those were less controversial.

I've yet to actually enjoy a Sunset game. It's been half a year. :( And even worse they took out Haven that was so much fun it balanced things out

Not quite sure. E-Xolos has chemistry because the team consists of three former 6K players and two former FUSION players. But, FUSION has Taco who has VCT experience from when he was on LEV, which might reflect on how the team would be coached. Darker and Virtyy were also on FUSION together last season.

I would tip the scale on E-Xolos here, but anything can happen

Post-match edit -- I definitely gave Taco too much of the benefit of the doubt there. He was not looking good at all. A shame, really -- I was hoping for a potential redemption arc, but it's definitely not a good start.
