Every team completed their second match of the regular season, but there were a couple of upsets that shook up the group stage.

Here is a rundown of how the second week of VCT China 2025 Stage 1 went:

This week had an even split between sweeps and three-map series, but two of the sweeps were two of the biggest upsets of the year so far. Starting with the first match of the week, EDward Gaming was swept by Nova Esports, knocking the recent world champs down to a 1-1 record in Group Alpha. This was a crucial win to revitalize Nova Esports after their week one loss to DRG, now finding the form they had in the Evo Series tournament. As for EDG, their Ascent looked alright but the team struggled when ZmjjKK played Waylay on Fracture.

FPX won another close game to get the lead in Group Alpha, while XLG took care of business over All Gamers. Then, Wolves proved their poor performance at Kickoff was just the past as they clutched two close maps over the experienced Trace Esports. Kai and heybay tried their best to bring Trace back into the game, but a new player rose to the challenge on Wolves.

Spring was the player of the week, playing perfectly on the smokes role to get Wolves confidently on top of Group Omega with a 2-0 record. Spring led both teams in the series against Trace with 254 ACS, 47 kills, and a +11 plus/minus. His utility on Astra shined on Pearl against Trace and worked amazingly alongside another candidate for player of the week: Yuicaw .

Spring uses his post-plant utility perfectly to set up Yuicaw.

Some other great performances this week included Life from FPX, CB and GuanG from Nova, and TvirusLuke on TEC over his former team.

With week two done, we have some significant movement in the group stage. Wolves Esports extend their lead at the top of Group Omega, with Bilibili Gaming joining them as the two-win teams for their group. EDG's loss means there is only one 2-0 team in Group Alpha, and it is their regional rival FunPlus Phoenix. Dragon Ranger Gaming also is above EDG due to map wins, taking their loss to three maps when EDG just got swept.
