Hello all,
I'm doing a mathematical investigation for IB in high school and want to try something different. I want to investigate momentum and to what extent it affects a team's performance.
Do you guys have any tips on writing such an investigation? Whether valorant-specific or math-specific. This is my first time writing something like this, any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

so what you need to do is

Pretty interesting project, wonder how you'll be able to quantify something like that. Maybe looking into % of rounds won after 3 in a row? I'm curious to see what you come up with though.

momentum between matches or between rounds?
ive thought about this before, id probably get some data from rib or vlr about the likelihood of a team winning a round, given they won the previous one. e.g. the chance of winning round two after winning pistol is much higher than winning round three after winning your anti-eco
of course round wins are mostly determined by the teams economy going into it so you may have to account for this

something else you could do is an investigation into the chances a team wins a map/ comes out positively in a half after winning one or both pistols

not sure what the IB course consists of but could do some sort of statistical test for significance if thats something youve studied

just a couple ideas, good luck, sounds like a fun project

Thanks for the feedback! Getting a good mark would probably involve stuff outside the IB course, I have some experience with stats and stuff but apparently you need calculus to do well, IDK how to integrate that but we'll see.
I hadn't even thought of economy as a factor, that would definitely influence outcomes much more than just rounds won and lost.

Appreciate you!

You also would need to factor in the Time outs during these spree of rounds many teams use it to break momentum.
Variables you can focus on can be thrifty, gun economy, TOs, clutches, some variables which would help to boost team morale, there will be lots of factors to consider.

I'd suggest you to look at CSGOs data as well, as they have large set of data so your model will be more accurate

Another dataset would be really nice. I was thinking of also adding data from NBA games to compare momentum across different mediums, would that be good as well?
Thank you for the other variables to consider!
