Brazilian death threats

Hey guys,

It's my first post here on vlr, but I've been following it since the beginning and I'd like to share an insight with you.

Im brazilian and Im fully aware of how toxic people in my community can be. And I'm not here to defend who is wrong, much less who makes death threats to other people.
But, have you ever stopped to think if any of these death threats have already had any results or any kind of harm to the threatened people?
I mean, usually people who do this are internet kids, or people who write expressions in Portuguese and the translator makes it look like they're threatening.

I know I can't generalize, there are always those people who go beyond the game, as happened once in the csgo LAN championship with BIG against MIBR in Brazil - Belo Horizonte. However, the person who cursed Big was completely screwed by the Brazilian public when they found out what they did.

The vast majority of Brazilians are just passionate and want to see the team be competitive. As FURIA today filled us with pride for having a great clash against Sentinels. We do not want to keep creating problems for nonsense, but we will always cheer for the growth of our scenario, something that emerged since CS 1.6 and the soccer vibes.

The pause issue today generated a controversy that was solely Riot's fault, and I think it's very wrong for people to blame Sentinels. However, in relation to any type of threats, I think the best thing anyone does is just ignore and block these types of people, as Dapr himself said in his live.

Hope everyone has a good champions experience, and that we continue to have good games.

Peace

Bro it's just a part of sports now but the majority of esports fans are 12 year olds so they don't get the banter and jokes

I know, but I thought it was important to try to clarify these things.

But, have you ever stopped to think if any of these death threats have already had any results or any kind of harm to the threatened people?

look the majority of your post is great and well intentioned but this is an awful support for your argument here. it doesn't matter if nobody has acted upon these types of threats before, if you're not involved in that culture and people are sending you messages saying they're going to kill you in real life it's concerning regardless. especially when the people receiving these threats are young and don't know much about the world or other communities.

for example, how do you think a 16 year old kid that just plays games all day is going to react when hundreds of angry people are suddenly saying they're going to kill him and his family because they think he cheats? i'm sure you know who i'm talking about lol...

things like this shouldn't be excused by "did you really think they would do it lmao", they should be addressed

I get you're not trying to justify it but even attempting to rationalize it though giving context is, in a sense, enabling that type of behavior. The scene would be infinitely better off if people in the community just came out and said, "this shit is wrong, stop saying this garbage. you are not welcome if this is how you treat others"

just my two cents

You are right in your point. But what I tried to say in this was to focus on the fact that most of the people who do this are just kids or misspelled. Not that this justifies anything, but just lip service. But you're right, it wasn't a good call.
@Edit: and btw, I was rereading, and just to make it clear: even though I tried to justify it (which I know was mistaken), I really think this culture is wrong and it has to end. This type of threat is not only sad for the game, it shames the Brazilian community.

In my opinion this subject is very complicated.

Brazilian community doesn't have this kind of agressive position only in e-sports. In soccer we have a good recent example: In the Libertadores Final, a lot of fans just sent death threats to the Flamengo's player that made a mistake in the game. So, I'm supporting the comment above. In Brazil, people simply doesn't know how to react their feelings, and like the boy said, there a lot of kids in the internet that just think is a good idea to send
anonymous threats in a land with no rules (doesn't have excuses, but I'm just explaning the scenario)

And I need to add more, foreign just doesn't know how is difficult to be a brazilian in this esports world. A lot of american casters doing jokes and making fun about brazilians teams. This kind of salty comments only support the communities to be more agressive. After all, if you are brazilian, you're bronzil, you don't know how to play, you don't deserve three spots in champions and you are a dumb.

It's not easy as you think guys, just keep in mind that. Brazilian death threats are very wrong, but xenofobic and salty comments also.

Thanks for complementing the topic. I see in several topics that people don't know about some difficulties of being Brazilian, of being called a monkey or being sent back to the favela by most chats on twitch, or international games, or not having, in practically every game, teams that can pay fair wages to players. But I don't even mention because it's already part of our life, and outsiders wouldn't understand, or would just say they're excuses.
Btw, true about the Andreas death threats.. in this case, its a real deal, wtf.. sadge to think about it

I think twitch chat and the general community shits on everyone. I am Indian so I can relate to you. But I think Brazilians take it a little too seriously. I respect the passion that they have towards competition and the love they give their teams but sometimes with the death threats it seems like they don't understand that its just banter. I agree with your point that casters sometimes make fun of teams and it adds fuel to the fire.

Yes, I understand and agree that there are many Brazilians who go overboard, and i REALLY dont agree with them. But as you said, there are also moments where the teasing exceeds that we are a scenario that is third world and is developing.

Never, my friend. I'm not trying to justify, and I strongly criticize those who do, I'm just giving a parallel view. Those who make threats shame the brazillian community.
