not necessarily. there was forced conscriptions, and one of the biggest reasons on why most independence movements began after world war 2 was because the european powers were weakened and economically devastated. the colonies then took this as their chance to gain independence. they wanted their superpower to be weakened, so it could be easier to gain independence. they didn't want to help them.
