Oldest esports athlete that you know of? In any game
Athlete
a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise.
E sports players are not athletes.
bro just put an e infront and called them e-athletes what fucking difference does it make
Because it is offensive to traditional sport athletes who dedicate their whole life to this and by calling an e sport pro (who takes a year or two to go pro) as an athlete reduces the respect the term 'athlete' gets.
its not offensive in the slightest, shaq literally said something along the lines of he could never be good at video games, yet he is a top 3 center in basketball history.
most esports pros need way more than 2 years that is just wrong, and there are some examples of traditional sports athletes who started playing a sport VERY late and became a pro in 5 years time
Shaq not being good at video games has nothing do with what I said. Also I bet he could pull it off if he spent enough time in his youth on a video game.
And believe me when I say this becoming a traditional sport athlete is a lot more harder than e sport pro player given the immense competition.
So by calling an e sports pro an "athlete " is straight up disrespectful
"Also I bet he could pull it off if he spent enough time in his youth on a video game." dude, his hands are too big to hold a controller or a mouse no he could not
"And believe me when I say this becoming a traditional sport athlete is a lot more harder than e sport pro player given the immense competition." the level of competition has NOTHING to do with the defintion of athlete. someone just has to be proficient, or "very good at doing something." there isn't a limit to how many athletes there can be per sport.
again, it is not disrespectful. I was considered an athlete when i played baseball(which i stopped because of covid) and i take 0 disrespect
Well I'm talking about athletes who spend majority of their time on their sport, not you who is not yet decided on what you want to be.
Now Imagine you get 1st place in International maths olympiad and they compare you with your school mathematics topper. That is straight up disrespectful. Both of them are separate even though they have maths in common.
Just because esport players and traditional sport players play, doesn't mean both are athletes.
dude i did not DECIDE to stop i was forced to because of covid. i played baseball from 4 years old until i stopped, thats a longer time than joel embiid played basketball before he got drafted to the NBA.
"Now Imagine you get 1st place in International maths olympiad and they compare you with your school mathematics topper. That is straight up disrespectful. Both of them are separate even though they have maths in common."
this is not the same comparison at all dude. For one, it is comparing math vs math not math vs something else, and for 2. math olympiad competitors are still math olympiad competitors regardless of level they just have to compete.
Dude you consider e sport players as athletes so by definition you're assuming e sports as a sport rather than a game. This opens up a conversation for comparison. I don't see why comparing them is wrong with your assumptions.
no, because between sports it is also different lol. you made an intra comparison not a cross comparison
Life changes and definitions do as well.
If you think Esports doesnt have physical effort is idiotic
Ya sitting in front of a computer for 12 hours straight requires physical effort and comparable to someone who physically trains for the same time!!
Well said
I never compare with anyone, but if you think for a pro player only needs 12 hours of stting in the computer to become a pro, then do it yourself and prove me wrong, dumbass
I never said 12 hours in total
I meant it as 12 hours a day and you still did not say how e sports pro require physical efforts
They quite literally put esport in front of athlete. Also sport: "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
"team sports such as baseball and soccer".
By this logic chess wouldn't be a sport which it is literally recognized as a sport.
Chess is a game not a sport
Also let's assume that it is a sport, do you call chess players athletes? No, because they don't perform physical task in the game/sport. The same goes for video games.
Well since the International Olympics Committee recognizes it as a sport I will humbly side with them.
Also again he didn't just say "athlete". He put esport in front of it.
It doesn't matter what I call them I can't go against a organization that deals with not only determining what is and is not a sport but they also handle the Olympics.
Never did I say an e sport players require less skill. I believe e sport players depend more on skill and traditional sport players require more time and practice.
Also here is an alternative explanation
Suppose you are specializing in physics and I'm specializing in chemistry. Since physics and chemistry both come under science or scientific study doesn't mean we both are pursuing the same thing. Just like that a traditional sport player and an e sport player are two separate things and comparing them is disrespectful to either side
Notice how he stopped replying XDD
Haha now upvote me like the guy who said the same thing above
I might have been misunderstood i didn't mean to say e sports requires less skill, I mean to say it requires less time and discipline.
My point was not to compare the difficulty but rather say they are two different things and comparing them is simply absurd. Same with e sports and traditional sports which is why the players can't be grouped with the same term
I'm sorry, I was just mocking the guy above in the comment who tried to make fun of me by asking why I didn't reply, so I wasn't toxic I was just mocking his behavior.
athlete etymology:
late Middle English: from Latin athleta, from Greek athlētēs, from athlein ‘compete for a prize’, from athlon ‘prize’.
Literally half of the top Street fighter players in Japan are 40+ it's insane
