Best in role vs Best at role

Do you guys draw a distinction between the two?

For example, someone like c0m, imo, has the best sova util, but someone like cauanzin or leo brings more overall impact, mostly because of their aim and impact fragging.

Can you think of any other examples.

mako is just better with the nuances of being a controller like the timings, the spacing, the decision making, we literally see bro dance around mfs

i rly don't agree with this take, Demon1 has shown through his gameplay this year the points you listed to an absurd degree but none of it gets highlighted as much as Mako's because they play two completely different playstyles for a controller, and just to make it clear Mako is the one that's way more flashier. We've literally seen Demon1 do shit like ace in an isolated 1v5 on Brimstone against a top team but ppl just jot it down to nothing but mechanics because he isn't Omen tping everywhere lol.

because in 2022 controller clutches were more methodical and tactical lol. rewatch some of Demon1's clutches on controllers and try to actually understand what he's doing rather than just jacking off to his aim, the guy's unbelievably smart but we're just denying it for some reason

i have, but sometimes he really just does win off of pure aim, but controllers like marved, mako, mindfreak, (maybe sugarzero), and pancada can generate insane impact even if they werent fragging out

no one is denying he's really smart and an effective controller player, MaKo is just better at the role, this last Champs was one of his worst tournaments and he was still providing insane value for his team

TBH Mako is so good I honestly could put him above demon1 for best in role, if we consider who has greater impact on the result of the game. It would be a close one tho.

Maybe this is just me, but I always feel like most good smoke players get overshadowed by people who can 1v4 or igl well.

People like Mako and sugarzer0 seem to have a great awareness of when and where to smoke, while Pancada and Marved have that to a lesser extent, but are known more for their clutch/fragging.

it's because controllers have a very low skill floor and a very high skill ceiling, it's easy to tell apart a good sova from an average sova but it is very hard to tell apart a good brimstone from an average brimstone

I agree with your previous example, but I still think c0m played sova better. His ults and util were just so good. With Leo, it didn't feel like he was getting the most out of sova. You could've put him on other characters, and he would've been able to get similar results, baring the agents being bad on the map. C0m's sova single handedly reinvented the meta on fracture, a map where teams historically stayed away from Sova.

I still believe that Leo is a better all over player.

Well we could ask any casters emea/na/apac they would tell most of them that leo doesn't miss shock darts,even when he wasn't top fragging and wasn't in fnc everyone knew leo is the top3 sova and his util usage is second to none.But you know we don't have access to stats.Whoever talks about c0m sova pulls thing from recent memory.so
