johnqt was half of the brains behind M80's stellar 2023 run, in which the roster became the undisputed top team in North America for most of the year. Under his in-game leadership, M80 lost just two matches in the Challengers League NA — one in each of the group stages — and headed into VCT Americas Ascension with the first seed in hand after flawless runs in the Mid-Season Face Off and the Split 2 Playoffs.

M80 got through the Ascension's group stage in second place, due to an early loss to The Union The Union Inactive Askia Estevão Ferreira GuhRVN Gustavo Ferreira pancc Fillipe Martins ntk Lucas Martins raafa Rafael Lima . They faltered again in the knockout stage, where The Guard bested them 2-0 for the second time this year. That semifinals loss forced M80 to run through the lower bracket, where they won three Bo3s in a row without dropping one map, but the roster faltered in the grand final yet again to The Guard. johnqt's men won just the first map in that match, and lost the next three as The Guard took the first promotion slot in the VCT Americas.

johnqt is expected to replace Marved as the team's IGL. Marved is the only member on Sentinels' roster who has not re-signed with the organization as of writing. Marved took over the IGLing duties midway through the season, as the team parted ways with Rory "dephh" Jackson in May and promoted their sixth player to the starting roster.

Their mid-season changes weren't enough to save Sentinels' regular season. The team placed seventh in the VCT Americas, just outside of playoffs contention, and were forced to go through the Americas LCQ. The team was only able to find one win in the LCQ before being eliminated.

This is the second announcement to come from the Sentinels camp in the span of a week. On Sept. 9, Tyson "TenZ" Ngo renewed his contract with the organization for another year.
