Valyn said he felt like this could be a "development year" for the team.
"guys i know you are probably going to get offers but its not a bad idea to take in on the chin and don't play in the league this year to make sure you as an individual are better."
He felt that "they were very incomplete players if we went into the league right after that (in reference about their 2022 season), we would still do damage but our lack of experience could show a lot more"
The prior year and the growth of the team in 2022 was also a reason:
"culture of the guard is so easy to learn, no one has ego atleast between us."
"we were together from the start, so we had this really strong respect for one an other, which kinda told us that if you want to grow as a player and get better at valorant and learn the game you should do it with these group of guys"
Apparently the interest in 2022 also helped the players get better deals from the guard.

(speculation)
What i think is that with the Guard crumbling it wouldn't make sense for the players to stay together.
Even if the guard made the league they wouldn't be able to offer the same wages, kroenke was pulling resources out of esports.
The guard would also only be a guest spot which could hurt longevity.
The players had already achieved their main goal, all the players wouldve made the league.
