in a match that was closer than the scoreline indicated. In a rematch of their opening match of Masters: Tokyo, the result 2-0 went in favor of EG for the second straight time.
The win over FUT continued to silence doubters waiting for the “second-place curse” to take effect. While many have tabbed Group B as an “easy group,” EG has yet to drop a map in the two matches they have played.
An all-around effort from the team was the catalyst behind this victory, with Demon1 being the sole player on EG to record a rating under 1.00

After qualifying for the playoffs Demon1 and EG have one thing on their mind:- the lone team to beat them in Tokyo.

EG looked like they would cruise to an easy win on Pearl, jumping out to a 9-1 lead, but two late rounds from FUT led to the dreaded 9-3 lead for EG. A furious comeback from FUT would lead to them winning nine rounds on their defense side, and sending the match into overtime. After the teams traded rounds in overtime, A clutch kill by Boostio and a final kill from Demon1 clinched Pearl for EG.
The second map was more of the same, as FUT fell behind 6-0, An ace from MrFaliN in round 12 was the final piece of six straight rounds from FUT to knot the score at 6-6. After losing the pistol, EG was able to win their eco, as they had so many times in Tokyo, to tie the match back at seven.
Playing Raze, jawgemo used a strong attack side on Bind to close out the map for EG in a final score of 13-9. With an ACS of 309, Jawgemo once again showed his flexibility after playing Astra on map 1.
A vintage game from Ethan watched him rack up 43 total assists over the two maps, and he continues to be an integral part of EG's success over the course of the last two tournaments.
Overall, while not as clean a game as EG would have liked, EG was still able to win another match without dropping a map. They showed resilience in shutting down comebacks in both maps, though both maps should have been won in a more convincing fashion.
EG becomes the second team to qualify for the playoffs, following DRX yesterday. They will look to continue to avoid the second-place curse, although C0M is not worried about that.
“We came from — if you really revert back all the way back — we came from a coach knifing a guy.. We're technically not supposed to be here, so I don't really think too much about curses or anything because we have nothing to lose at the end of the day.”
